Exhaust leak...maybe broken cat?

I think I managed to bust a hanger on my b-pipe; my car sounds like its got a quiet aftermarket exhaust and it rattles around when I'm driving around. I ran it at WOT and after doing that, my car momentarily smelled like rotten eggs. I'm not sure if I busted my b-pipe and like to verify that it is before I go out and get one. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I haven't had time to see where the problem is coming from because its been raining up here.

Its your main cat if you smell rotten eggs. Most likely if you busted a hangar and your exhaust was hanging lower you caught it on something and cracked the inside of the cat. You definitely need to replace your main cat. I would recommend a parts yard to try and find one off a junked maxima, or an aftermarket cat. The stock cat from the dealer is going to be way too much money....

or get the less restricted cat for maxima from RT. You can find it on the cattman website.

this just happened to me 2day, not the smell though, i brought it to my local shop and a hanger rusted off the mid pipe, they just tack welded the hanger back on and its as good as new. its just weird how an 02 with 54k miles on it will have a rusted through bracket on the exaust. how long does a stock exaust set up last for?

It should, but it won't always. The rotten egg smell is a for sure indicator you have a bad cat.

While your having the cat replaced go ahead and have them throw on your cattman y-pipe. It would take another half hour on top of the cat install.

the Bracket at the end of my b-pipe, right where it turns to go up and over the axle broke off. It was rattling. It has now found a home in the garbage.

P.S. It's not making anymore noise
