Shaking of the Steering wheel at 70mph+

I have about 38000 miles on my max and ive done a tune up on my car with the exception of a brake flush and a auto tranny flush. Whenever I hit 70mpg my steering wheel begins to shake. Its not shaking because of braking but its shaking because of me going fast...

could it be that I need an allignment or is it something else? Anyone who knows what im talking about please chime in. Im thinking about bringing this to the dealership and have them run a diagnostic on it. Do they charge for just checking the car??

I've had the same problem from 69-72MPH after getting new Falken 512s. I had them rebalance all four tires and do an alignment. Problem solved in my case. It could be a host of other things though from wheel bearings to warped rotors. I would start with the simplest and cheapest thing first, wheel balance. And yes, the dealership will charge you to diagnose the problem. Good luck.

could be different things, but most common would be alignment and/or wheel/tire balancing.

I have the same tires and come to think of it that is just around where i think my vibrates slightly and it's only a few mph so I went the logical route and just didn't go that speed...i'd rather go 68 or 73+ and save the $70 for alignment...You can't really drive under 73 around here and expect to go with the flow of traffic haha

the funniest thing is that i got my allignment when i installed my new tires, i think i hit a lot of pot holes to mess it up again...... i dunno. ill call NTB to see see if they can do something about it since i got my tires and allignment from them.

kruppa - 73 on a fast lane or middle lane in MA? it doesnt happen. lol try 80+

I believe NTB offers free balancing for the life of the tires as long as they are on the original car. Try getting all four tires rebalanced without doing an alignment and see if that fixes it. Like I said, start with simplest thing and work up from there. Since you recently got an alignment, it might be just the balance issue. Hopefully anyway. I guess the Falken 512's are prone to this problem??? My stock Potenzas sucked, but at least they didn't vibrate at high speeds.

when i got my falkens, i had to balance them three times, but i think that it was just because they were balanced poorly before...ever since, they have been awesome....i would get them re-balanced...
