"Thunking" noise
"Thunking" noise
I would like to know if anyone has had this problem before, or if you know what it may be.
This morning, I got in the car, and started driving. And I hear "thunk, thunk, thunk" noise. It almost sounds like a flat tire, but not as loud. The oscilations increase the faster I go, just like a flat tire. This makes me think that it's something in the rotating part of the car. I checked, and all my tires are fine. Anyway.... I got on the highway (reluctantly), and drove to work. The noise dissapeared. Maybe it will come back again, when the car is cold. I read something about bad wheel bearings happening more often with lowered cars, so this may be my problem.
If anyone has experienced a similar issue, or if you guys have some ideas on what I can check, please let me know.

i will today after work. this just started today, it's not cold, maybe 50° at night right now. could it be something needs to be greased, because the factory grease is getting thick, and does not lubricate properly until it warms up due to driving?

Wow! I just had the same problem start last week. When cold it sounds like a whirling metallic sound, as soon as the car warms up it is fine. In my case it sounds like it is coming from the rear drivers side. Is it possible that the rear wheel bearing is on the way out?
hmm, check for bearings and cv joints/boots.
i just found out that my front passenger cv boot was cut. i don't think this was making that noise, but i am glad i got under the car and inspected everything.
