rattling..

Ive searched in the faqs section but havent found out what this rattling is that i just heard today.

it only rattles when it gets to 1900-2000 rpms then stops after that rpm range. i have a 2002 and just got it last weekend but didnt have that noise till todya. It sounds like rattling and its only while pressing the gas. Anyone know what this is?

thanks..

A rattle coming from where?

From my experience the rattle was coming from the engine compartment
and it turned out to be the Timing Chain because of low oil.

from what ive heard from other owners, 87 octane is way too low of a grade on the maxima. The max does have an knock sensor that should prevent that, but you can easily see if the problem goes away by using 93 octane for your future tanks. if its rattling and not knocking, check out the posts on the timing chain issues

hesham1 is correct.
Don't use 87 octane.
Put in some high Octane and check your oil level.

most of my friends who drive maximas all use 87 octane and they don't have these problems... i have had mine a year and a half and i always use premium so i decided to switch over to regular (87) and so far i have 350 miles on this tank and a quarter of one left... and there is no knocking/rattling?? who knows i think the timing chain could be the issue
