Best mod ever if your at the track

last night when i was at the drag strip in search of a 13, i discovered the best mod ever. i like to call the Jason Bag mod. what it is 3 bags of ice on the intake manifold and we shut the hood and it stayed put. i ran down the track with them still on the intake manifold. and it worked. i broke into the 13's with a 13.964 at 101.40. so thank you jason for staying and watching and helping out with the bags. by far that was the best mod i've ever done.

i am surprised that the ice helped the composite manifold. i have driven hard stop and go traffic in 90 degree heat and the manifold was still just warm to the touch. i have seen a few people use the ice at the track but never thought it would help on the 2k/2k1 manifold. congrats on the 13s.

I've seen guys use CO2 to do the same thing on their intercoolers. Basically, they take a purge nozzel and aim it at the intercooler and purge down the track. The laws of thermodynamics apply to N/A as well. I bet if you used a short intake and shot the IM with CO2, you'd have the same effect as long as you could keep the CO2 away from the inlet on the intake (displacement of O2 in the air).

Yeah, not a good idea to put ice on the manifold. It can leak all over the strip. Also, can get you kicked out.

Agreed. That's why the CO2 idea is better.

Ice bags over the intake manifold is a very BAD idea. We did it to my friends Evo couple of times, however we had to stop after the third time because water has leaked to the spark plugs and ended our racing day.

most of the people i have seen used the ones you bags you put in the freezer. the same things that keep kids lunches cold and what not. then you would not have to worry about leaks and is reusable. i also would say this is not unconventional and has been used for quite some time.

i've heard of taking an empty coffee can and putting dry ice in it and wrapping your fuel lines around it. never tried it thought.

What is the advantage of cold fuel?

actually you get several feet of fuel line and wind it up inside the coffee can.

you can search google for 'cool can' for more specific instructions/description.

This actually sounds like a fantastic idea. Instead of using ice bags, use freezer ice packs. That way there are no melting leaks or a flimsy plastic bag that can rupture and spill.

Did it with a Grand National back in the 80's. We had an aluminum box, and ran a "S" extension of metal fuel tubing in it, and filled it with dry ice and anti- freeze. We tried to get the antifreeze colder than 32 degrees. Funny thing about dry ice, when it hits 32 degrees or so, it stops bubbling. It is it's own thermostat. It did seem to help, and we did get booted from a run because of "Smoke" coming out of the engine bay.

If you dropped a bag of ice at 90+ MPH I would assume you could cause problems.

Dry ice is not bad. It's really cold but you can get sick from the vapors that are CO2 I think.

not only that, but keep it away from your intake, as CO2 will displace oxygen, resulting in a rich mix and loss of power.

most cool cans use something in the area of 20 ft. of fuel line, IIRC...
