Jerking Car

Well heres the problem, everytime i get on the pedal the car starts to sputter, like the rpms jump up and down, like 1...2....3...sputter..jerk...4...jerk.....5 sputter...6 redline and then shift smoothly into the next gear. what could it be, the car has a terrible loss of power as well, i hear a sort of air leak noise under the hood as well. Can it be my maf ? Thank You

Edit: Except the sound. When my MAF blew, there wasn't a difference in sound. You may have some leaks in the intake or vacuum hoses.

The title of this thread is grammatically flawed.

I don't quite understand how this is a symptom of the MAF. Most issues with the MAF people say that they can't even accelerate past 3K RPM. This sounds like it could be an IACV/throttle body issue. He says his RPMs jump up and down and that's what happens when your idle air control valve is gonners.
