Tire - Center Wear. Have you seen this? What pressure do you run?
Well, just finished half of my tires and yet once again, they are heavily center worn. I would say 3-4mm low in the centercompared to the high point, measured visually using a straight edge. I have surely lost 1 season on each set.
This is the third set that I have gone through that have badly center worn. (2 summers (RE-92 'donut-of-death', Pilot Sport A/S, both stock size 225-50-17) and 1 winter (Blizzak WS-50 on steel rims 205-65-15).
The ususal suspect is high tire pressure. Checked that out. Ran the past year at 30psi. Didn't help.
I am starting to think that the base 32 PSI is too low and the tire is overheating and therefore is picking up too much pressure. Running 30 only worsened the problem.
Questions to all:
- Have you experienced center wear?
- If so have you solved it?
- If so how?
- If you have not experienced center wear what pressure do you run.

From my and my neighbor's experiences, the Pilot sports seem to be notorious for center wear. I and he (on his 4th gen) had the same problems...mine wore allthe way to the cord and the sides were fine...running factory pressures. No idea why...

im on 245 45 18 and i always have outer wear..... but im upping my pressure from like 35 to almost 40...... my sides are worn out more than the center, so im trying to balance it back out...... but i would also be interested in what other people put their tire pressure on......

235/45/17 Kumho ECSTA's, 25k miles, @35psi - seem to be wearing fairly evenly.
These have only 1-2k miles left b4 they're toast.
i won't be getting these again, need something a little more commuter friendly. But decent tires for the buck.

I have center wear on my stock 225/50-17 Potenza death donuts. However I typically run pressures close to 40psi so I attributed the wear to this. I have since backed the pressure off to close to recommended pressures and will see in awhile what the effects are.

i run 35 in the winter..because there isnt as much heat...so the pressure varies between 34-38...in the summer i might drop to about 33 psi because the heat will expand the air in the tire, causing variations between 35-39 psi....thats just how i roll...
P.S. If you are lowered i believe that you need a bit more tire pressure...but i need to double check that.

I used to to put 33psi front and 31psi on rear. Not good handling and not good MPG.
I bumped it to 38psi front and 36psi rears, and it was much better just harsher.
I think I'll change it like upstatemax said. 36psi front and 34psi rear on both the maximas

Believe it or not... running low pressure can in fact cause center wear as well as over inflation. Depending on the materials used in the tire, some actually centrifically spin the center of the tire out to the point where the center runs higher than the edges (especially if your a 80+ MPH highway runner). I ran 28-30lbs and saw center wear. I now run 35 front/34 rear and consistantly get even wear... Good luck

Never had any wear problems since new. Ran 57-58K miles on the RE92s at 35 psi and still had 4/32" left all around. I then wasted my time with Falken 512s for 3300 miles and wore the outer edges off faster than the rest of the tread, but that doesn't count; the 512s suck caulk. After that I ran Dunlop Winter Sport M3s last winter for about 6K miles at 36 psi and had no problem (11/32s all around). Until this past weekend I ran Fuzion ZRis at 39 psi for about 10K miles and had no problem (8-9/32s left I think. I actually didn't check before I put them away. Last I checked when I rotated them mid summer, they had 9/32 all around).
