Have any of you seen the new Range Rover LED Tails? They have the orange circle in the middle for the turn signal and around that is a red circle thats the brake light. It's almost like xTeCaOx's photoshop but the brake light is surrounding the turn signal tightly. I think that might look interesting.

Our taillights (brake portion) is 1/2 way lit for the parking lights and compleatly lit for braking.

How would this go about with LED's. From what I gather, a LED cannot be 1/2 way lit.

Do you plan on making 1/2 of the LED's for parking lights and the other 1/2 for brake?

Company called ICPW, had a rep drop by our dealership trying to sell the lamps, the response was not too good. Would looks nice if chrome was painted body color.
I gave them my feedback when they visited us at the dealership.

http://www.inprocarwear.com/tailligh...LEDT-1113C.gif

They are the manufacturers, not STILLEN or CM.

Do it like the LandRover HSEs. Make the brake/running light a ring around the blinker like in this HSE.

This is a 2004. I think the 2005s came with the way I said it would be.
Look at the red light. The silver ring around it would be the blinker.
I said the same thing on post 87 except its the other way around.
The orange is on the inside and the brake surrounds it.

The ribs on the outside edges of the orange lens is what lights up red.

EDIT: Owned by refresh

I agree with you. Those are not the same tail lights from metaorbit's link as the stillen ones. Those lights look almost stock and the stillen ones have those red bars going across. Metaorbit, did you get the name of the manufacture?

Didn't get the manufacturer name, but In-Pro sounds right. In any case, the part number matches the ones Stillen sells (the IPCW ones) perfectly, so I'm pretty confident that those are them.

It may just be one of those situations where the picture that's distributed everywhere just happened to be a really bad picture. I think in real world situation they look pretty nice, as my the picture I snapped seems to show.

In any case, even if it did look bad, I don't see why anyone couldn't use red tail light paint or red tail light overlays to make the circular part completely red.

Stillen = UGLY....cmon guys, just wait another week or two and this is gonna blow those ricy tails out of the water. I can't wait to see the final result of what I've sketched up as well as some of the other guys out there. Keep the input coming guys.

Any up dates on your progress? Did you figure out how to open up those tails yet?
I think the lack of aftermarket parts for the maximas has made most of us become our own type of engineers and have even more of a creative mind.

I will be working on this after X-Mas. I will likley have the first tail completed before the New Year. There will be no HOW-TO, however anyone whom may be interested in purchasing a pair will be afforded the opportunity once the methodology has been perfected.

This project will be kept under the strictest of confidentialities...

Metal - Here is a thought.

Why not gut the divider that seperates the Turn signal and the tail. Turn the light into 1 round LED. You could have 1 ring of LED's around the outside for the turn signals and a cluster in the center for the brakes. Just like the HSE up the top. Might be difficult to do with the different coloured lenses, but maybe you can find some cleared tails to test this out on.

Just waiting on housings here. Completion hopefully will be done around the same time, I am just waiting on a few parts setting the deadline a little farther back. Should be somewhere in the near future though.

oh man I'm jealous of all these german imports that have the led tails. I saw a Bentley continental GT last time I was home jesus those tails are teh sex and so is the engine and front grill. I really like the idea of the circular LED pattern also and would buy a pair if the price was right. I have a thought for Metal or any other LED modders : How about led lights in the headlight turn signal lens? That would look great. How could those sites charge $300++ for those tail lights. I do not like the look of them. Are the LEDs that expensive? Can't wait to see some progress on these lights.

I'm only asking because I'm trying to open up my tails so I can paint then but can't figure it out. I've read all the post saying it's impossible but since you are "METAL MAXIMA" I know you will figure it out. So when you do send me a pm, please.

Damn...you guys are taking all the fun out of this. I already have a second set of headlights coming for this project. I was hoping to reveal this as a package deal. And it just depends on what LED's are used as far as pricing goes. If you do some research youll find that you can find cheap 5mm LED's in large quantities while, on the other hand, purchasing Luxeon or other brand name LED's run betwen $1-5 bucks per bulb. Factor in around 50 of those for an estimate and other regulators, resistors, etc. and your running pretty pricy already. Then everyone wants profit so....you get the idea. Alright no more peaking!

FYI: MakDaddy is more than likley to be the first one done with this project. I want to finish my car before the year is out, and I am still assembling LED domes and maps for .org members, so my time is pretty tied up at present.

Go for it, Mak!!!!

for keeping this project under wraps. I just found out that Italiano is backing out on sending me the tails for personal reasons (no worries) so any other donors please let me know. Obviously housings are crucial for this project. Back to the parts list for me. :tardmash:

PLEASE HELP!!!

Also realize that this project is going to need time for working out kinks and fine tunning things so they will be reproducable. Don't worry, results will be legal for all you OEM guys out there.
