Help SES light on!!!!

Hey guys this is my first help thread that I have ever made so go easy on me. Ok I was driving home at about 1:30am and my SES light comes on out of no where. Earlier that day I checked the oil level just for the hell of it and the oil looks really dirty, does the SES light come on when its time to change the oil? I just got this car like 4 days ago, and it runs like silk. It still runs the same even though the light is on... Any thoughts? I am taking it to a dealer tomorrow for an oil change anyways but I just wanted some input on this since this is my first nissan. Thanks.

Check this thread for the info you need

SES Sticky

Dirty oil will not cause the light to come on.

You need to get the codes out of the computer to figure out what's causing the SES light. Is there an Autozone nearby? I hear they will pull the codes for free. The dealer will charge you about $60 to do it.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. I took it over to Peoria Nissan and they are going to pull the codes for free with my Oil change and Cabin Air filter replacement.

ALRIGHT, They just called me and told me that it was a Fuel System Lean code. They cleared the codes for me and didnt charge me a dime. Peoria Nissan is awesome!

Well, they said if the light comes back on to bring it in. If its the MAF going I will just buy one and put it on myself. Its very easy from what I understand.

Well ****, the light came back on today as I was driving home from the gas station. So what do you guys think? MAF? The dealer said there were no "hard codes" in the ECU so its ok. I think its the MAF starting to take a dump. After I start my car and go its kinda sluggish but then after a little it feels fine. Any input would be helpful.

Ok, I just went ahead and ordered the new MAF from courtesyparts.com I know how to install it but is there anything else I have to do besides install it? Do I need to reprogram the ECU or just reset it?

You actually do need to reprogram it but you cant do it yourself i dont think, they need to do a re-flash at the dealer, but it should be covered by emissions warranty. I had my MAF done under another dealers warranty(where i bought the car) and they put in an air filter and reprogrammed the ECU under the 8/80 Fed. Emissions warranty, far as i know this is the way to do it

True, but many, including me, have changed the MAF themselves and have not taken the time to get the ECU flashed/re-programed, with no problems as far as I am aware.
