Automatic Transmission Flush (2002 3.5)... Do I have enough fluid in there?

I flushed my 2k2 3.5L automatic transmission today using method in the How-Tos (drained 4qts from the pan, then drained 2qts at a time from the hose that was plugged into the radiator)

According to the owners manual, I can check the fluid in the cold range when I get the car to operating temperature, shift it through all the gears, and then check while idling. When I do this, I only see a hint of fluid on the edges of the stick.

When I let the car cool down and check the fluid when the car is off, the fluid is within the cold range.

Because no fluid is appearing when the engine is at temperature and idling, I'm pretty sure I need to add more fluid because it's not really showing up on the dip stick.... am I right?

Hard to tell... I can never determine how much ATF or oil is in my car. These dipsticks suk.

Are you fairly sure you put in as much as you took out?

Yep, keep on adding and checking your fluid. Same thing happened to me when I did mine and I actually had to go back to the store to buy another liter of fluid. Just make sure you take your time and add slowly, drive a bit, add some more and repeat this step until your up to the full line. Good luck.

You need to check it while engine is idling either way (with the tranny cold or already at operating temp). Seems it is low. Like the other suggested, add the fluid slowly, like 1/4 of a quart at the time...

When I did my flush and the HOW To I used 10 Q to flush and If I recall correctly 8 remained in. Just check the stick when the car is cold to be safe.....

i heard from some of my buddies over in the tech shop at mercedes benz that the only way synthetic ATF will do any good is if you also drain the torque converter and replace that with synthetic ATF as well... is it possible to drain it? is this true?

"sig" means Signature. The thing on the bottom of the post that people add to make them look cool, like mine. However, Lontar did not add his sig on the post right above yours. Follow this link,
