Does your Bose sub rattle ALL the time, or only with certain notes?
Well, I'd like to get as many responses as possible before spending $100 sound deadening my rear shelf (which is why I post it in 5th gen, not audio). So I ask this, does/did your Bose sub rattle with all kinds of bass, or only certain frequencies/notes? Mine only rattles with lower frequencies. A bass "A" will rattle hard, a B will rattle a bit too, but everything else it doesn't. I can listen to hip-hop with ease 90% of the time -- never rattling there. I can listen to rock with ease 100% of the time, since bands don't use low "A" bass notes ever.
But techno is a little different...Benny Benassi, for instance, I can NEVER listen to a Benassi track without rattle. He's fond of pulsating low-bass notes. So, again the question comes in...is that how everyone else's rattle was? Or did it rattle no matter what bass note?

im not using Bose, but i have an ARC Audio 8" sub in the same location and yes, it rattles only with certain notes, and yes, the I35 is better in that aspect than the maxima. i have had Don (pearl96max) deaden and rattle proof my rear deck, he spent a few hours on it, and it improved it a lot, but certain notes still do it. the next option is going to be to not have the sub there, but in a small box in the trunk, cuz i cant really take it much longer. I know that its not an option for you, since you are using Bose, but id say the deadening will only help the situation, not totally solve it.

Mine rattled a good portion of the time, but no more. And adding quality sound deadening notably improved bass response from the bose. I'd highly recommend it. I'm rattle free since the deadening project.

I added sound deadening to my rear deck and like housecor said it really improved teh sound too. I dont have any rattles at any note. I not only sound deadened it but i got a very compressable foam and cut it out inthe shape of the rear deck and extra pieces to shove in areas that may hint at any rattles. It was tough getting the board back ontop of the deck but it was worth it.

I agree with Steven... the stock speakers on my Bose always sound muffled (looks like this is where Nissan cut corners)... so I cranked up the treble all the way and turned the bass way down (I never turn it up past +3)
I also noted that my rear deck mostly rattles to higher freqency bass, regardless of the genre of music. Low frequency bass comes in crystal clear, as in a lot of hip-hop songs, but once that high freq. comes in it just sounds like ****.

My bass is at 3 and treble at 4 most of the time, though on some songs I need to lower the bass to 1-2 level due to the rattle from the back. Another place I noticed where the buzz comes from is the rear licence plate cover that I have. It is attached only by top two screws and the bottom would rattle... Two-sided cusioned tape fixed that... I have no intentions in doing anything else. I think it involves too much effort, I just turn it up more and I don't hear it buzz

I sound deadened the rear deck, sub mounting plate and around the speakers in the doors and noticed a huge improvement in sound quality. I've replaced everything since but for the several months I had the stock Bose, it was like a new system. I think the sound deadening is an absolute necessity for those who keep their system stock. To me the Blowze sounded boomy and bassy with too much treble, that is, until I sound deadened it. Then, I thought I got what Clarion / Nissan was trying to do.

I am with those who have dumped/replaced the blose system altogether. It just never reproduced the sound in the way that I have grown to expect. With the Bose you basically are only getting about 60hz-15khz and that leaves a lot of audible frequency on the table. Not to mention the wimpy ~10watt rms per channel amp driving the main 6 speakers does a poor job attempting to reproduce that limited frequency range.
Now a Lexus type, Nakamichi or Mark Levison Audio, we could have only dreamed of getting that type of system in a Nissan/Infiniti product. My wifes 03 RX just has the premium non-ML system and it sounds fantastic.
