Eventually, but Autozone can clear it for free. I just replace some bad coils on my 00, it took about 2 weeks before the CEL went out, but I had been riding with it on for a while before fixing the problem.

if the misfire goes away then the code will cycle itself out. if you want to speed up the process then you could unplug your negative battery terminal overnight. if the light comes back on after that then the issue is still present.

Yeah, I would clear the SES asap. The computer will "re-learn" itself and adjust to the new coils more quickly. If you don't, then the process will definitely take longer because the computer doesn't recognize any change, because of the stored code. The code needs to be "cleared" or "erased".

I changed my coils and plugs about two weeks ago, and I knew that the SES light would go out eventually,( I think it is like 80 drives or something) so I didn't worry about it, light went off day before yesterday and I can tell a HUGE difference already, so I'd go to autozone and have them clear the light. Good job on doing it yourself, you just saved about $350!!!!!! well worth it wasn't it?

2000 Max? You don't need anyone to clear the light. Just disconnect the negative battery terminal for an hour or so and when you turn the car back on the SES light will be gone (along with your radio station presets and the correct time).

If the light is still on, it's because something else is wrong.

find autozone next to you get that code cleared for free.
I personally bought the OBDII scanner a year ago (under $100) and it has been one of the most usefull things i bought.

So you don't have to post on here and ask why the SES light is on...

This is true, except disconnecting the battery is not the "correct" way to clear the code. It's better to clear it with an OBII scan tool. This way, the computer will adjust to the new repair and re-learn everything much more quickly. Disconnecting the battery only makes the computer re-learning process much slower (must re-learn and adjust to everything from start, instead from just the new repair), and plus sometimes the code is still stored in virtual memory. I say, find someone with a scan tool, and get the code erased or like someone said before, if Autozone does it for free, get it done. Believe me, it's much better this way.

my point is that you can go to autozone and have them give you the code, then you can come here and look at the FAQ's and see what the code is you are having. I'm just not understanding why buy something, when you can have autozone run the test? Sorry, but I'd rather do something else with the $100.

True, but "to-each-his-own". Having an OBII tool is a great tool to own, especially, if you're like me, to work on my car myself instead of taking it somewhere else where I cannot trust if the repair wasn't done right or if I come out totally dissatisfied about their work. In other words, you feel better about yourself working on and taking care of your car beacuse it's yours, plus if you do your own repairs, you save money. I have an OBII scan tool and it's great! I got plenty of use from it (not only on my car, but others as well, like my friends'). To me, it's well worth the investment and it pays itself off instead of going somewhere where they may charge outrageous prices just to read the code. And, not all Autozones read & clear the code for free (where I live, anyway).

MIXXMAX can you recommend a particular OBII tool? The only ones I've seen at my local auto parts store only work on certain types of cars. I'd like something that will work on everything.

Well, where I live, Autozone does it for free, they won't clear the codes, but they will let me push the button to clear the code. And I do all my work myself, with the org.'s help (usually the FAQ's) of course, but yeah, if Autozone charged me to tell me the code, I'd definetely buy one. and you are right, to each his own.

All OBII scan tools are compatible with all car models manufactured 1996 to present in the U.S. I heard the Actrons were good, so I bought the Actron CP9135 model. You can purchase one for a little over $100.00. The only thing is that this model doesn't read the "P1" codes, just the "P0" codes. The more expensive OBII scan tools read the "P1" codes as well as the "P0" codes. Most cars now, (manufactured after 2000), have the extra codes, the "P1's". To extract the P1 codes, you may have to go somewhere who can exract them, such as the dealer, or find someone with a scan tool to read the P1's.

If you have a laptop buy a software and obdII connector package.....They range from $80 to $500..........Look on ebay..These have the capability to turn your light on and off. Plus you can view your 02 sensor output, dynotune (not very accurate, but it will show an improvement vs. no improvement), check your maf, fuel trim, etc........Not worth it if you don't have a laptop, (or palm pilot) but if you do this is defiently the way to go IMO.
