"Trip" button on steering wheel not working after installing stereo

Has anyone else run into the problem of the "TRIP" button on the left side of the steering wheel not working once you take the stock radio out? I installed a Jensen V9510TS over the weekend and everything works great.

I know the radio control buttons on the steering wheel won't work. Anyone know how I can get the Trip button to work though? Right now it just displays the outside Temp, and I can't get to the MPG, DTE, etc... Please Help!

You need to ground a wire from the stock harness. Look around for the how-to etc....

I have looked through all the How-To's but nothing about that. I looked before I posted, that's what I had used to find out how to take console, etc apart.

What you should do is strip back the wire casing (don't cut the wire in case you want to reconnect the stock radio). Wrap the exposed wire to one of the screws that holds the bottom of the radio bracket in the dash. Make sure its tight and your info computer should work as normal.

Sweet Thanks. What did you do to find it? I was using the Yahoo Search for the forum cause it said I didn't have access to use "search" button at the top of the forum.

This is exactly what I was looking for.

on a slightly similar topic..i just got the Eclipse AVN-5435 and the PAC SWI-ECL (the steeringwheel controller for the eclipse headunits). It works BEAUTIFULLY....I would recommend this set up. You dont even have to ground the trip computer wire...you just connected it to the SWI-ECL. GOOD job DON & Don JR.

but wait, your'e question is for getting volume controls again, or JUST to get the trip button functioning. if it's just for the TRIP button to work, then you just need to strip that brown wire.

also, watch which wire. it's a brown with white stripe, but there are 2. one is for your left driver side speaker and much thicker. the thin thin one is for the trip monitor. just make sure that's grounded and trip functions work again
