No pic is necessary. Your speedometer must be way off because I when I shift out of 2nd the mph is already passing 65mph. Go here and you will clearly see that you can over 60mph in 2nd:

http://www.boostaholic.com/maxima/dyno/shiftpoints.html

These mph and rpms are based off a simple calculation of the ring gear vs drive gear. As you can see, at 6100rpm, you're already at 62mph. At 6300rpms, your at 64mph. So at the rev limiter, you'd be close to 67-68mph.

BTW, you really don't even need the calculation to figure this out. Roll to 3000rpms in 2nd and see you're right near 30mph. Take 3000 X 2 and 30 X 2 and you'll get 6000rpms = 60mph. The ratio vs mph doesn't change......unless we are talking about a varible ratio tranny like Honda and Audi are currently marketing.

Hey Pizza Boy your back again...late as usual? You wish you had a Max it is so obvious! The only thing you could waste on this forum is bandwidth...which you do quite well! Keep up with the great posts you are so cool!

Damn..

Oh well, I'll never let one of those things get by me again. At least without a better run. Like I said, I didn't know he was going to race at first since we both started accelerating normally. Then I heard his car coming. I have no idea what possessed me to let him go by me before I decided to downshift . That's never going to happen again.

Dave, sorry about the picture thing. I just tried it tonight again and during the day, and I hit around 67-68 mph. Some reason I always remember 60. I don't know why. The only thing I can think of is my clutch is slipping? I ran my friends truck today, and creamed him, bad, and I made sure I took it to 6600-6700...I even snaped the limiter at the same time as shifting.

Cool, now, if this ever happens again, I'll know I'm safe to dump to 2nd. Maybe I would have faired better if I had.

Hey Russ, go run this punk in the CL-S. He's lives in Texas. Show him how a real car jumps off the line....not like some over-weight low torque Honda.

I'm not into names too much either but when I hear:

M3
M5
911

I just think speed and perfomance. I hate BMW's but love the M series. "Acura" I think:

accountant
borring styling (except the only real Acura...NSX)
reliable
good used car
and how can a 260HP car be such a poor performer.

Francis, Don, ..... forgot the other guys nickname... anyways. Since Houston is not exactly a close trip for me....I am not gonna drive that far just to show u my tail lights. Why not you run at the track, and scan a time slip for us? Please do....

Those are specific models... I have mucho respect for them. Its just the "I have an Acura, so its better!" It could be a 15 year old POS but since it's an Acura we should all love it.

Dude you and your boys don't want any. Like I stated before as long as they are not running turbo, supercharger, or NOS, I will murder them, any other mods are fair game. I'm not stock but I do have Comptech headers, that add 30hp at the wheels, AEM CAI, Srings&Sways. As far as me not owning my car whatever, but if you want some I will run you all day from a stop, or from an 80 punch! As far as a time slip goes I have not gone to the track, but will be going by the end of summer, and will post slips when I do.

Chill out man! No one really cares how fast or slow your car is on this site. It is all talk and that is it. Fine you have the fastest car in the world..happy now? The only reason we reply back to your posts are because they are amusing. Your car can beat any Maxima..there you happy? Best thing to do instead of posting and talking about it is to go to the track and run you car....times don't lie. Anything else we can help you with? Please do post your times at the end of the summer that would be an interesting post for sure. Otherwise give it a rest. Take care and have a nice day!

CompTech headers adding 30hp? LOL thats a first..... That means you got greated gains than the mustangs or Fbodys which have V8s. I seriously doubt you got over 15hp. Drive to San Antonio, I will be gladly to run you, win or lose, its all in good fun...I will also have someone video it

Have your buddy with the GTI VR6 come by too (which is what this post is all about). Be funny to see him lose twice to less expensive/less HP cars. The post is about GTI VR6 and some Acura guy starts posting in...too funny!

Re: Damn

The VW's you have to worry about are the 1.8T's NOT the VR6's. There are TONS of people on the VW website who run low 14's with just a chip and a downpipe. For 3K, they can get the stage III set up which just ran a 13.0 on a new 1.8T (with the stock Clutch and Differential)!!!! If you happen across one of those, you'll be sorry. I own both a Max2K 5spd and a 1.8T Jetta Wolfsburg. Stock to stock the max is much faster, but it doesn't take much to make the VW rediculously fast...

You obviously haven't ran a newer 2000-2001 VW Golf GTI Vr6.....it is fast.

I don't disagree! The Vr6 is fast, but they are about 15.0 stock and chipped, exhaust, etc, etc things that I call 'likely' mods put them in the mid to high 14's. The 1.8T stock is 15.6, but the 'likely' mods put them into the LOW 14's and they are easier to drive since they are all in the low end (while the Vr6 requires a 'better' driver). We definitely need to be on the lookout for all of these cars, but the 1.8T is the real sleeper of the group (everybody on the VW forum favors this over the Vr6). We will need to be extra carefull in a couple of months when the new Vr6 and 1.8T come out. Power on the Vr6 jumps from 174 to 201 and the 1.8T from 150 to 180... The will also be offering a 6 speed with the new vr6

Not to start another flame war, but there are tons of post of the CL-S with comptech headers getting dynoed at 26-30hp at the wheels not at the crank all over the net. It is amazing what those headers do for the car. My car pulls extremely hard throughout the powerband, it is a night and day difference between when I was stock and with my mods.

CL-S Jerky-
Put up or shut up. You haven't even run in the 1/4 mile yet so sit the "F" down. I witnessed a handful of teenage kids PUSHING a CL-S to the line at the track only to bust out consist 15.3s@90mph. Too bad I was running 14.7s@94mph that day. They thought that CL-S was fastttttttt.

I just went to Comptechusa.com and checked out their dyno for the CL-S headers. This is too damn funny. All they show is a typical dyno plot of a before and after with a spreadsheet to the left showing gains and losses. Torque isn't even mentioned (in typical Honda fashion). Here's the kicker. They don't show a true Dynojet graph, nor the shop it was done at, and if the car was tested on the same day. As far as I'm concerned, that information is useless crap. They also don't say if the power is to the wheels or not, or if it's even a Dynojet or Clayton. I trust this information about as much as I trust the G-Force ECU dynos.

Stock, the CL-S was making about 202hp (to the wheels?) and the with headers it was making 230hp. Here's what's funny. Assuming a 20% loss in power thru the drivetrain, the 260hp 3.2 VTEC is making 240hp at the fly. With headers, it is making 276hp the fly. So, technically the stock CL-S is 20hp below factory ratings!?!?! Hmmmm.....sounds to me like Comptech is guilty of tweaking dyno results to show more power than is there for the headers.

The Cl-S and Type-S are also about 300-400lbs heavier than a 5th gen or about 400-500lbs more than the 4th gen. It should also be noted that the 3.2 VTEC is much lower in torque porduction. I've seen some Type-S plots showing about 185 fwtq and about 195 fwtq with the headers. Sorry, but you can't rely of hp alone to get you going, especially off the line.

All in all, a modded 4th and 5th gen is more than comptetive for a modded CL-S/Type-S. They've been known to run mid 14s and so have we.

Lost to an GTI

The VR6 is not the only one you have to be cautious of. Those 1.8t's chipped can churn over 190 hp with a top speed of 150 mph too! A chipped 4 cyl 1.8t can easily smoke a stock VR6!

I wonder what the engine life is going to be on one of these chipped out 4 cyl? I would never buy a used turbo car (911 or not) especially if it has been chipped (which means driven very hard).

VR6 in the Jetta and Golf come stock with 174. 200 is quite easy with a chip and filter. Breaking 220+ is more difficult.. cams, headwork, forced induction, etc.. but they pull like a mother. New VR6 gets a reworked head for 2002 with 24v and over 25hp gain. 1.8T in Golfs/Jettas are spec 150hp (Audi has 180hp version), but are actually more powerfull.. I believe 2002 will see stock 170 for vw models. Literally, they didn't want to 'upset' Audi in 2001 . Anyhow, a chip, filter, and exhaust gets you well over 200hp. A chip alone will get you 190+, and for just over $100, you can't go wrong. New turbo will get you over 300hp if you want.. basic tuning kits w/ exhaust, injectors, new turbo, etc give you 250-280. With some work, you can get 450+ out of one, and for a 1.8L engine, thats quite amazing if you ask me

JUST A LITTLE UPDATE

Today, I was coming back from the gym, and that SAME F'r lined up next time me. This time, I revved up on him. Light turns green, and I had a SWEET launch. I was ahead through the first 2 gears, not by much, maybe a car length at best. But then, as I hit 4th, he started to creep up on me.. I'd say we topped off at like 115, then we both slowed down. At the end, we were side by side. So, I think that makes up for the loss last weekend. I think with a few more mods, I'll be able to take him.

Here is a dynoplot of a VR6 with big valve head, chip, intake, exhaust and header versus a 2000 Maxima with a Cattman Y-pipe and CAI. Obviously, both cars were tested on the same dyno. This should settle the argument about the VR6 versus the Maxima dont you think?

Not to start another flame war, but there are tons of post of the CL-S with comptech headers getting dynoed at 26-30hp at the wheels not at the crank all over the net. It is amazing what those headers do for the car. My car pulls extremely hard throughout the powerband, it is a night and day difference between when I was stock and with my mods.

1)Cmon everyone... The CL-S has run 14's in the 1/4 mile stock... He can beat a lot of us. With his mods he is probably running low 14's.

2)Acura2001CL-S... In Case you hadnt realized, this is a MAXIMA forum. You are welcome to talk about anything you want, as long as it doesnt make our Maxima look like a peice of shi7, cause it isnt. You paid way more than we did. More expensive cars are expected to go faster.
