Seafoam saved $$$$

Well heres the deal a while ago I did the VIAS repair on a friends 2000 fed spec max. We cleaned it off did the JB Weld repair but still his VIAS wouldnt open at full throttle. We even checked the sensor and it was good, we worked on it for like 6 hours on a saturday but still couldnt get it. A friend suggested maybe he has low vacum so that would mean his intake manifold was cracked or his vias was completely crapped. So we went to the gym on wendsday and after we raced i raped him, we talked he said he was going to buy a new manifold for like 300 bucks( his buddy works at nissan) and I sugggested hey why not a 6 dollar can of SEAFOAM . I told him what it does and was like ok Well we did it yesterday his car has around 105K miles never done it before. Alot of smoke came out looked like we clam baked my garage even though the door was wide open and then hes like im gonna take it for a drive to see if it did anything. As soon as he punched it i heard tha vias kick in i was like DID HIS VIAS JUST ACTIVATE?? Sure enough he pulls back into my garage big smile on his face we pop the hood hand rev the engine sure enough vias was working. So 6 bucks is better then 300 plus bucks. Just posting this incase anyone had a problem with it even after the JB weld fix. I guess his vacum lines were pretty clogged up. Now hes got extra money in his pocket and wants to get Hotshots.

Pretty much all automotive stores sell them. BUT, do it before an oil change as it makes the oil very dirty afterwards.

You could actually hear it? I know that mine works 'cause I feel the increase in power over 5 rpm but I cant really hear the difference.

It's a solution designed to clean internal parts of your engine, intake manifold, injectors and fuel lines. While there are many other products that can clean your fuel system and engine better than seafom, seafom if probably the best thing to use to clean your intake manifold.

besides seafoam is there any other things youd recommend doing at the same time to help clean internals?

That stuff is crazy. Add it to the fuel, put it in the oil, works in the tranny too. You read all the stuff it cures on the bottle, and it makes you think someone with AIDS ought to drink some.

And yet I've heard about a million stories of it really working.

Thats if you put it in the crankcase....in this case, he didn't put it in the crankcase...he fed it thru the IM...this has no affect on the motor oil and u don't have to change your oil until you need too...

From day one here, I have been seeing this talked about on the forum. Im starting to get curious about it. I already understand how to do it and where to get it, but do you think it would be at all beneficial to do it at 60K?

Never hurts to try, maybe try running it in the crankcase but change the oil after that

I doubt that it will. It might help pinging only if the cause of pinging is sludge, but VQ engines are not prone to sludge formation.

even through the brake booster method, some of the released particles from the IM can make their way into the oil. most is blown through the exhaust but the couple of times i have used it, the oil draining out afterwards was darker than typical. i follow fairly strict guidelines for when and with what i use in an oil change or i would not claim that.

Hmm I never knew that you should put in your oil.

Are you inviting disaster by putting this in an having it free up a bunch of stuff and send it tumbling through your engine.

i used seafoam on my 92 prelude, i put it in all 3 suggested places. I could not believe the difference it made!! I usually got 300 miles on a tank of gas, but the week after i tried seafoam, i got 350 miles on the tankful, same driving routine and everything. The car ran so much smoother and the VTEC (don't flame me for this) transition kicked in as smoooth as it did originally. Very highly recommended!!!

I haved used seafoam in all 3 areas (crankcase before and oil change, brake booster vacume line, and gas tank) as well and have not had any problems with it and will continue using it.

So if you're throwing sludge out the tail pipe, could this clog the cat converter???? Or at least contribute to its demise....

???

Here is a picture of where this stuff goes, the rest of the instructions are on the bottle. Be sure to give it hell when you are finished waiting the 5 minutes.

It is O2 Sensor and Cat Converter safe(According to the bottle, says it right on it)

Here is the pic:

I'm assuming that the when trying to clean out the IM, you pour/spray it in right after the filter?
