Bad Fuel Economy, What Can I Do?
I've been experiencing very poor fuel economy with my '01 SE...I was wondering if anyone on here has had the same problem and cured it without taking their max to the stealership?

Aggresive City Driving 270 miles on a tank...divided by 18.5(gallons in fuel tank) = 14.6 mpg (rounded) all city, cold starts, short runs, mostly aggresive driving (i was late to a lot of places this month lol)
Slow City Driving:Best was 330 miles on a tank which rounds out to 17.8 mpg ...all city, slow accelerating (always shifting under or at never above 2 rpm)
Highway cruising @ 70 mph 430 miles on a tank which is about 23.24 mpg
Nonetheless the VQ always puts a smile on my face

Fuel Mileage: 435 km / tank = 272 miles / tank
using fuel tank = 18.5 gallons
272 / 18.5 = 14.70 MPG, always using 91 octane Premium gas
Mods: none to intake system, only aftermarket exhaust section and high-flow cat (saving $$$ for the rest of the piping to make it a full catback)
Last Tuneup: 88,700 km
Driving Type: non-spirted (its winter here, I drive slow so I can stay on the road)

Things to check: tire pressure, spark plugs, o2 sensors...
We don't get very good city mileage generally, but on the highway, its pretty decent. On the last long-distance trip I went on (all highway), I got 26-27 miles per gallon going around 70-75 miles an hour the whole way; 85% of the time on cruise control.

I'm getting 20/21 on every tank-sometimes a half tank on the highway, sometimes all around town. I've tried 91 and 87 octane (Chevron)-doesn't make a difference. I drive pretty slow.
edit: it's also an auto which doesn't help any.

run the car with the Highest octane you can find and don't drive like a maniac.. tkae good care of you car... regular maintenance etc.. tires also. If none of this works.... well time to trade the car for a Toyota Prius....

23.1-24.5 mpg
01 with all bolt ons
averages taken from a 5 month timeframe of total mileage divided by gallons per fillup
nothing out of the ordinary except normal maintenance and the occasional spirited driving
