P0021 is an IVT control code, according to the FSM.

Bank 2 is the front, closest to the radiator. Bank 1 is the rear bank.

I hope you're still under some type of warranty. My stealership showed me what Nissan paid under warranty and the labor cost. 500-600 dollar job. You'll probably gain some power back when you fix this also. My butt dyno hinted to me that I did.

Sounds like everything went well then? No hassles with the dealership?

Not at all, everything is great. I won't know until I hit the dyno, but I definately feel all the power again from this fix.

They were great, a good place to deal with. They will be getting a good review on their survey for the hassle free service. They did take two weeks to get my car done. .....(that was just cause I had so much crap wrong with it though, and wait time for parts to arrive).

well that's good news.

My car has 110k miles and I bought it totalled after someone hit a deer with it(lots of hair etc) so no warranty.

BUT, and tell me if I'm on the right track here, there's that electronic actuator that sits on top of the valve cover near the timing chain side of the engine, is that the intake cam timing thingy that's giving me trouble? 'cause the electrical plug with two wires that snaps into it is pulverised. Part of the accident I surmise. If so, potentially easy fix here.

I think what you're describing is the VIAS solenoid valve. I've physically never seen it or taken a motor apart, but from what I understand from the FSM, I'm pretty sure the IVT control solenoid valve is on the cylinder head by the cams on the timing chain side.

Hopefully someone else can chime in or you could ask the guys in the All Motor forum, since I would think this is a more advanced query.

PM me if you need to know where to get an FSM online.
