Does the Search Function work?

Does the search function work?
Every time I try to use it I get "sorry no matches" yada yada yada - even when I search for things that I KNOW exist - Like "ECU"
Apparently, on occasion it deems me worthy and will return a result.
Is it just me or is there a problem with the thing?

You are right! "ECU" does not come back with anything. That is weird. I tried some other words, "maxima" and "tint" and the search function does work. Maybe there is a set list of words it searches on and ECU isn't one of them. I would think it searches the entire message though. Oh well.

The search function IS the weak link . . .
in the forums. I'm really not certain why Jamie doesn't attend to it.
First, it doesn't appear possible to search by any term with less than four characters in it. Just for fun, try searching on "HKS". But even more interesting is the fact that it won't search on any term that starts with less than four characters and is followed by a space. For example, try searching on "HKS Ignition". You won't find a match. But then take a look at this:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=43388
How did I find that thread? I began by having the advantage of knowing it was there. So I did a search under "ignition" and dug my way down thread by thread and page by page until I found it.
The search by user name function doesn't work either. Why it's still listed as a search option is a mystery to me. The only way to search by user name is via the user's profile, a very clunky method and completely undocumented.
The search function is one of the most valuable tools we have available to us. Too bad it doesn't work properly.
PS: I just entered a post in the Feedback Forum with a link to this thread. Perhaps Jamie will see it and honor us with a response.

The search function will be upgraded with the next release of the software.
BTW, it's much more predictable if you use the boolean functions there. So if you're looking for "fog lights", don't do a search on "fog lights", but rather do it on "fog AND lights". Sometimes that helps. I know its a nuisance right now, but upgrading the software with the customizations that we have is a real time-intensive process.
Believe me, I wouldn't just leave something broken for no good reason.

Thanks for responding so quickly. And good luck!
