HID Imitation Bulbs

I'm just wondering what are the best Xenon imitation bulbs on the market? Ideally, I'd like to have matching headlights and fog lights that are bright and have that slight blueish tint, but at the same time, I don't want it to look cheesy. I was thinking about converting to true HID headlamps, but I've heard cost estimations of around $1000. Suggestions?

you can get Htech real HID lights for $350, but as far as Xenon, it is very difficult to find the right one. Maybe try some PIAA bulbs(they are pricey as well). If you can find the correct Kelvin rating, it may look fairly close.

Expect to spend $60-70 for a set of PIAA Fog bulbs.

You can get them off www.Custommaxima.com

My suggestion would be to check out the Group Buys thread and find you can buy a Helios HID kit for under $300...there is the link.

ZOMG, bad information abound.

A new et of HID replacment bulbs will cost you around $320. Check the group deals section. It's plug and play. HID imitation bulbs and just that - imitations. Don't waste your time or money; if you want the real thing, get the real thing

No such thing as halogen bulbs that look HID. I don't care what anyone says. HIDs FTW!

Buy matsush.ita ballasts and some osram or philips D2R bulbs.

If you want an improved halogen bulb without spending the money for HIDs, Sylvania Silverstars will run you about $40 and work pretty nicely.

real HIDs

I have the silverstars they're better than stock bulbs but no way comparable to HIDs, if you want you can get the silverstars and save up about 500-600 dollars and jus get the HID kits on HIDplanet.com, you gotta retro a ebay head lamp and what not Dr. Roy has a pretty mean set up and how to

DO NOT GET SILVERSTARS!!! I installed SilverStars in both my cars last year and BOTH sets burned out within about 8 months. I have read on this board and other boards that others have experienced the same problems. They look pretty good when they work, however they are not worth the money if you have to keep replacing them.

I will admit they're hit or miss. I ran them for a while, had one pair that lasted me two years, another one 3 months.

I was watching my local FOX news station, and they did a complete test on the HID imitation bulbs. Do not waste your money on them. They are not good at all. If you want HID, buy the entire lights. It is well worth it. I have them on my 04 Max. The high beams are amazing, reaching up over 20-25 ft into the trees.

But honestly, do not waste money on HID imitation bulbs. The FOX station also reported that the halogen lights are better than the imitation bulbs. The best thing about the HID lights is when your passing someone and they think your high beams are on (and they really are not), and they flash their high beams at you, and then you flash your HID high beams at them, then you make them look stupid.

Why don't you just get 02/03 headlights for $570? Don't buy a HID kit, because our reflectors weren't really designed for the light. Plus with OEM HIDs, you'll get a much meaner looking car.

...hmm, that's an idea. Would I need to change any existing wiring or components? How difficult is the install? These are probably basic questions, but like I mentioned before, not real familiar with HID's. I'll try to do my homework....

from what I've heard, the wiring is a little tricky, but fellow org. members are more than happy to share the how to once you show proof you bought them.
The reasoning behind this is because of so many thefts of the HID's. Thats why it isn't posted anywhere. I just wonder if the lights come with the ballast and bulbs.....

as far as i know all the "hidden writeups" do no include how to get your high beams working properly.

the rest is a direct cut and splice and anyone can figure it out.

further, the whole "show me proof" is one big nonsense of an ego trip.... but that's another story.

so there you have it.

It would all depend on how much you want to spend. PIAA plasma GT-X look nice and are fairly close to HID color. If u want to pay around $300 you can get a H4 retrofit kit which really arent bad in these reflectors because they are designed decently. OEM HID's are great but might be too pricey. For that amount you might as well do a custom projector retrofit.

I have the feeling that I'm getting myself into a much more complicated project than I originally thought. I might hold off on this for a few months and do some other things.

For those 2k2-2k3 headlights being sold on Ebay, will they definitely fit into the 2k1 without any other conversion kits? I'm sure I could figure out the wiring with a little help from the forum, but I don't want to have to do any physical modifications to the car.

No modifications have to be done to the body of the car. Just the wiring and that's it. Dozens of people, including myself, have done this.
