How to check faulty front sway bar links and bushings?

I have a dull clunking noise in the front suspension. I lifted the car and checked the sway bar for any play, but it seemed tight and i couldnt find where it might make noise. It really sounds like a dull clunking and i dont know what elese can make that noise in front. The struts are new and they are installed correctly. Am I checking in the wrong places?

Some nice info in here. They are hard to see but if you are taking the time to check them, you might as well replace them.
