headlights and bulbs : the right one :)

Hello,
Guys and girls i do need to get smth better than the original headlights on my 01 Maxima SE . I recently got Sylvania 9003ST again. But now i'm not very happy with the amount of light and it's distribution in front of the vehicle. So i thought about 2 things, i hope to find the answer here:

1. Why PIAA super-popper bulbs are better ? and is there a tech data that can prove that ( if ) one bulb is better then another from a diff. manufacture ?
2. Which headuint would you recommend to switch to from the original one:
a. is the change worth the money?
b. how durable is the product?
c. should i just chill and live with what i have and get a new vehicle with HID and forget about all this nonsense with changing head assembly?

Thank you.

P.S. Yes, i did look in the Lightning FAQ - half of the links are broken the rest is iether irrelevant to my questions or do not anwer them. Unfortunaltely.

IMO you should get the 02/03 hid lights...i reckon it's not too hard to swap them and honestly they look so much better and light up the road amazingly

what is "02/03 hid lights" ?
I've read that convertion from regular lights to the HID is not a straightforward operation ( remove the bulb - put a new one in, type of thing) ..

I'm "illiterate", sorry.

2002/2003 Maximas have different headlights, they are xenon HID...with minimal rewiring you can plug in these into your 2000 Maxima and have real HID lights

Check out the group deal section of the classifieds. There are a few HID sellers there. An HID kit can be had for $285, SHIPPED, and give you all the light output one could hope for. Plug and play.

I would not throw away $600 for 02-03 HID's in NJ... There is a huge chance they will be stolen.

I would go for a Bi-Xenon kit in your current headlights, they can go for $345 shipped in the Group Deal section. BTW Bi-Xenon are low AND high beam HID's, standard HID are only one.

Also I noticed my light output got MUCH better when I refinished my lens on the housings, they were hazy and pitted to hell. Go into the Detailing forum for a how-to, it is the best thing you can do for your lights for $15 and 45min of your time.

Hmm. I never even heard about the Bi-Xenon thing. Thank you! I'll check it out .

Are you referring to the OEM housing or to the "Bi-Xenon" one ?

It doesn't get any easier than plug and play

The Bi-Xenon lights go right into your factory housing; so yes, you sand and buff your OEM lens.

What about AE ?
i'm a bit .. well, a lot confused with this thing :
1, Is there a kit/housing combo to buy and plug it in?
2. Can't really see any manuf.
3. How the combination of both AE and Bi-Xenon will work ( if at all ) ?
thank you.

AE headlights are the same housings as normal but the chrome shroud is black instead. You can do it yourself, I did...

Helios makes a Bi-Xenon kit that is plug and play for a 2000-2001 Maxima, it will not be the "best" beam pattern, but then again 02-03 HID's are one of the worst HID's on the market.

ok. so i need ( if i want to go nuts and get AE with Bi-xenon ) :
1. get a housing for 02-03 maxima or the one from HEllos
2. Do the "AE" following one of the manuals here.
3. Get the Bi-Xenon plug-n-play kit
4. Get drunk and trash new toy into some oldsmobile to start all over again

correct ?

P.S. Step 4 is optional

No need for a new housing...

Keep your stock housing...Get new Helios Bi-Xenon bulbs, open the housing and "AE" it, while it is out refinish the lens.

Not trying to thread-jack, but I've been deciding on whether or not to get the bi-xenon Helios HID kit or to get 02/03 headlights... From what I've read here (and through searching), simply hooking up the HID's with the 00/01 headlight housing will have terrible glare, since they were made for halogen bulbs, correct? Would I not get better lighting with the 02/03 housings? And the "AE" mod is simply a black housing for the 00/01 (which you can do yourself), that won't help out the glare issue (I don't think)?

I would recommend Piaa xtreme white bulbs for your headlights. I have tried many headlight bulbs and they are the best in my opinion. You also want to polish your headlights if it's hazy and all. I'm happy with the amount of light output from my Piaa's.

could someone such as upstate max post a pic of the helios beam pattern? Even better would be a comparison to stock beam pattern and light output!

if that will be the case, i think, i can get a new housing ( for 02/03 ) and repeat the procedure with the eyes...
Am i correct ?
