Air Filter Cleaning

I'm too cheap to pay $15 for a air filter cleaner for my intake (not stock). Its been a year and needs one. I'm gonna soak in soap water with degreaser. Do I really need to oil it and if so with what? Vegetable?

Ummm do it right or dont clean it at all. And it should only be 9-10 for the K&N cleaning kit.

if you shelled out the cash to buy an aftermarket intake, the least you can do is drop $15 to keep it running at optimum condition.

Isn't your car and it's engine worth $15 bucks?

Guys, you heard him! He said he was too CHEAP to pay the $15 for the cleaner! So he is going to use soap and water, probably dish soap I would imagine huh "rule da road" ? Yeah and use vegetable/cooking oil if you want, don't forget to change your name to "side of DA road" or "stalled on DA road" Let us members here with brains know how that turns out for you!

Vegetable oil? Seriously, with all of the dead MAF threads on this forum I wouldn't tempt fate by using an oil designed for french fries on an air filter. I'd leave it dirty before doing that.

You summed it up there! I would have to agree as you have spent alot more money than the 15 dollars that you dont want to shell out at this point. But if you dont want to spend more than $15 then what will you have to spend in the future. Many Max owners would not recommend what your willing to do. Have you tried putting acetone in your gas as well since none of us want to see if you really do save gas from adding acetone into your fuel tank. Just be carefull not to get it on your paint job or you will be spending alot more than $15 on a paint job and possible a new engine or fuel system if you use acetone. Then again we haven't heard of any Maxima owner doing such a thing with the acetone and if it matters, I haven't heard of someone wanting to go the cheap route for an airfilter, either.

you might be able to clean it with soap and degreaser, but oiling it with vegetable oil wont work. you can probably just buy the oil, but its not like these things are one time use. i have been using the same cleaner and oil for probably over 3 years now. given i dont do it as much as i could, but youll get a few years out of it without much of a problem. spend the money, its worth it.
