Maintenance question....

I was looking through my user manual today, and was looking at the maintenance schedule. But I found it extremely vague, only mentioning stuff like oil change, tire rotation, in-cabin filter...etc. But what about the small stuff? Like a PCV valve or something? So how do you guys stay on top of your car's maintenance w/o going to the dealer? Thanks!

P.S. My car has 17,xxx miles on it, should I just change the PCV valve just to be safe?

It is a really cheap part...I picked one up from Dave B. for $5 I think, and thats twice as high as the ones from Advanced Auto Parts. It was really simple to replace, but honestly at your mileage, I wouldnt worry about it. However if youre **** about your ride like me, the $5 is definately worth. It shouldnt take you more than 5 minutes to change out. Good luck.

Thanks, I am going to change it because the car is 4 years old now.

But back to the orig. question, how do I find out about small stuff to change that is NOT in my user's manual? Are there any other small stuff?

Haynes manuals have some pretty good schedules. I have relied on my haynes manual for much crap.
