VIAS questions.

Im no mechanic lol So when ppl say its simple to take apart the engine etc its nots simple for me anyways I was wondering howyou know if your VIAS is broken besides a dyno. I know my car is messed up because its freakin slow compared to any other Max. Now I was wondering if anyone has gotten theirs fixed at a shop and how much it costs. The only thread I could find was Irishs but didnt provide anything I needed. Thanks guys.

Check out this page it has fix instructions on it. VAIS Fix Page Also To tell if it is broken there is a plug to the VAIS that you can disconnect. Disconnect it and drive around do some WOT runs make sure your car is warmed up so your runs are pretty similar. Then connect the VAIS and do some runs tell a difference? If not then you my friend have a VAIS problem. Follow the instructions. Some caution use some penatrating spray on those bolts and be careful of them since they are so soft use a big gauge screwdriver. There are like a thousand posts on this topic do some research. I would not recommend going to a mechanic for this the more work you do on your car the easier it becomes.

JB weld is a 2 part epoxy cold weld, you get it at any local autoparts store, even walmart i think, you would have to take apart your VIAS to understand what he means by the cup, he has a picture of it in his link

get the biggest headed screwdriver to take the screws out. Be careful with them.. you will end up using vice grips to finish the job... good luck

Can I get a confromation on the VAIS. On the help page they state there are 4 screws holding it on. However, I only see three two on top and one by the TB.

its near the throttle cables. You'll have to life them up to get access to the last screw.

*edit: sounds like you ahve that one.. the last one is further down, you'll proibably have to remove your intake box to get at it.

This is for the 3.0's but your 3.5 does have this but i dont belive it breaks like it breaks on just about all of the 3.0's

bottom screw is screwed

ok so i took out the other three on top, no prob. however, the bottom screw was already worn down apparantly, and i can't get a grip with the vice grip and the screw's head is wasted.. any suggestions? i've gone so far, and i don't wanna give up now on just one screw.

craftsman makes a "screw-out" set you can use for stripped screw removal. Or you can drill it out. But you'll have to tap the hole and use a bigger bolt.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the VIAS on the 3.5 works entirely different than the VIAS on the 3.0. I've never had a problem with mine.
