ATTN: 5th gen HID Owners.....Please come in
I am looking to get an HID kit and I need to know first off what I need to put them into my stock headlights, and also what are your opinions on HID's. DO they stand up to all the hype?
Thanks,
Dominic

Yes, HID is definately the way to go. However, the best possible way to go is to retrofit some projectors into your housings. 2nd best is going for the 5.5 gen headlights that came with the factory HID. 3rd and (what I have) most people have is a kit. Be very careful who you buy them from (stay away from ebay). Get a Helios kit in the GD forum from maximasbest. He has GREAT service and offers a lifetime warranty if I am not mistaken. I bought mine on ebay and lucked out because I got a great deal on some Philips Ultra Slim G4 Ballasts and Ultinon bulbs. Keep color temperature in mind. If I were you I wouldnt go over 6500K. Simply because the Higher the K rating the lower the lumens. If you are going for color 8000K is the max I would even consider. After 8000K the light output is crap.

Got a Helios kit for sale on ebay right now, bulbs won't fit a 2K but will sell you the rest of the kit for $125 shipped and you can pick up the bulbs you need in whatever color you want for an additional $90 shipped....

The kit I have won't fit into 2K assemblies b/c they have D2R bulbs and the 2K assemblies take an H4 bulb. That is why I am not including the bulbs automatically so that you can buy the kit for a discount and then buy bulbs separately that will work in whatever housing you have...

i have a 2000 also, could i just use the whole headlight assembly that came on the 03's , i know they sell a wiring harness to use with them? does everything work right when doing this?
my headlights look like some kind of clear coat has been removed and are real foggy and bad looking, so im looking for some new ones here soon

6000K Helios HID yes. It was worth every penny. At night, it looks amazing. I've only had it for a few weeks and already gotten plenty of compliments.
That looks great. Do you have high beams?

unfortunately no I dont have high beams. The output is awesome though, I would have no use for the high beams except to turn them on as a habit when there is no one else around. I can say though, the only part I don't like about not having high beams is that I can't show people my lights get brighter when I get the occasional flash. I dont get flashed too often though, maybe once a week. I have also noticed the people flashing me are older, like grandparents.

I used to run HID's in my 2000 lights. The output was better than the 2k2 hids that I run now. I attribute that to the fact that there is more reflective area in the larger housing. Mine had this little flap that made for a makeshift highbeam. It didn't work very well and I ended up getting rid of them because I missed the high beam and the beam pattern wasn't right. Blinding oncoming drivers was not my intention.
Your beam pattern is not correct with the different shaped bulbs and that is why you are getting flashed. That is the reason that aftermarket HID kits have been outlawed. Although your lights have great output, you will probably be hated by all other drivers on the road. The trick is trying to get the greatest output without affecting oncoming drivers.

Incidentally, the halogen lights in my wife's Honda Pilot cast a beam pattern that is both wider and longer than my oem xenons. Not as bright, sure, but who cares since they cover alot more road. And the Pilot high beams shine at least twice as far and high as the crappy high beams Nissan included with the xenons.

I was used to haveing an older pontiac's headlights but thought the maximas were OK for low beam at best, for a stock 01...i changed to those Philips cool blue bulbs, just to see the diff cause i got them for free, its a tad brighter, makes low beam driving manageable but i think the highs are pretty bright, even for stock bulbs. To go a cheaper route, how are those PIAA extreme H4 bulbs, or even the silverstars? H4 is the same as a 9003 right?

I enjoy the light output very much. I am lowered and I have also aimed my headlights a little lower to try and eliminate the glare as best I can. I can say the first night I had them I got flashed but recently I have not. I think the only time the look super bright is when going over a hill and comming down the hill to comeone and they get the lights at an angle. otherwise they are great.

Silverstars are about the same as a clear bulb. PIAA are garbage (and they are expensive on top of it) they burn out very quickly. If you have to have a coated bulb, stick with sylvannia or philips. At least they have a quality product.

The Hi/low kit that I had really didn't work very well. The high beams were still pretty much useless. The high beam was activated by a little metal flap opening to allow the light from the bulb to hit another part of the housing reflector. It really doesn't work at all. Not even as a flash to pass.
