Brake pads for 5th gen maxima(2000)

I cannot decide which brake pads to buy(F&R). I have the ugly stock 2000 gxe 16" steel wheels so brake dust shouldn't be much of a problem. Sound is however and issue, I would like to keep screetching and squeking to a minimum.

PBR/AXXIS Deluxe Plus brake pads are on a group deal on the forums for $68 shipped. Would these be a noticable difference if any over the Duralast Gold Ceramic or even cheaper Semi-Metallic brake pads that come with a warranty? I would hope these both perform better then oem?

What should I get?

PBR honestly suck. give you loads of dust and squeal. I'd go with akebonas or satisfied ceramics. check tirerack.com Hawk HPS will be my next pads though.

HAWK HPS are absolutely the best pads out there for the Maxima:
- good initial bite, hot or cold
- no fade (even when autocrossing or heavy mountain driving)
- no overheating
- no pad material transfer to the rotors (a common problem on the maxima)
- low dust (much less than stock)
- quiet
- smooth.

HAWK HPS > all others for regular daily-driving. Period.

Irish, I have my new HPS pads in the mail and install coming this weekend. Did you apply anti-squeal compund and break-in the new pads? If yes, did you follow Hawk's instructions?

Thanks soundmike, I had HPS on my old car, and it squeeked like no other every stop (except for hard ones) after 10,000 miles.

I bought some of the anti-squeal stuff at Napa, but it had two tiny plastic squeeze "pouch" (like ketchup) of the compund, is this enough for both front brakes? Each pouch was like fast food ketchup size....

I installed brembo blanks drilled by a 3rd party (no slots) and pbr metal masters @ all 4 corners on my 2000 SE back in Oct 2005. I have driven approx 8k miles since then. Not only do they bring the car down from 100mph to zero very quickly with complete control. There has never been a hint of brake fade, they have never made a noise, and they dust less then stock.

I remain quite pleased with this set-up.

yeah the pouch should be enough...you're not suppose to put too much in the first place...just enough so it covers the shims

PBR/Axxis ultimates here...they dust like no tomorrow and squeal like crazy....don't ever touch these pads becuz your life depends on it

Hawks HPS are great pads, but they are loud for me, lots of squeeking, but maybe thats just me. Because of all the city driving probably. Stop and go, stop and go.
