Change Flywheel leave stock clutch?

Would you put a light flywheel in and use the stock clutch? Nothing wrong with my clutch but I want the benefits of a light flywheel.

If you are spending the money to have the whole thing taken apart might as well spend a little more and get a stage 1 act, clutchmaster, ect cluch and get rid of the stock.

No way would I pull a trans, or pay someone else to, and put the used clutch back in.

This is a no brainer. Just put a brand new stock clutch in and the lighter flywheel, but don't reuse the old clutch after you've pulled the tranny

I heard that it would be harsh. Since our clutch disk is solid and the lightened flywheels is solid it will be harsh. From what I heard is that you can get the oem setup but an aftermarket sprung disk then lightened flywheel.

Also I heard with flywheels you hear startup grind because of the starter ring gear or because we have a dual mass flywheel.

Can you "harshly" hit whomever you reference for automotive information in the ***** in rapid fashion?

That is correct.....I have a fidanza flywheel and it grinds on startup. Fidanza claims that it is normal. I have had no issues with it and is has been on the car for 10k miles.

now read the part
Note "Replacement of dual mass flywheel may cause added gear noise"

here is the other link about our oem clutch disk

I would listen to these people since they have actually experienced doing these mods

The truth is you should just leave it alone. There is almost no benefit to a lightened flywheel. No matter what others on here may say.

I noticed a difference in performance with my setup. So Im not sure where you get that there is no benefit.

Because it's true. I'm sure you believe it made a difference and maybe it did make a small one. The lower mass might let it spin-up a tiny bit faster, but you give up the inertia on launch. Defintely not worth pulling a trans for IMO.

I had to get a new clutch anyways so it was worth it for me....if I had to do it all over again, I would just get a clutchmaster stage 2 clutch and get the oem flywheel resurfaced.

What brand flywheel do you have that showed no performance gain?

I've had my tranny out several times and have tried several clutch setups. I've felt the gain after install and the loss when going back to the stock flywheel for a short time. The car just feels heavier with the stock flywheel. sort of like having a car full of people.

Did you experience a loss of inertia with your setup? Even with HLSD and drag radials my biggest challenge when launching is not spinning the tires. I even bark the tires going into 4th with the drag radials on. I'm definately not suffering from a lack of inertia. If you're experiencing problems after installing your flywheel it may be something else on the car. Maybe the clutch is slipping.

Did you do the install yourself or have it done?

i noticed a huge difference when i got my fidanza installed. the whole car just seems so much more responsive.

wouldnt lightening the load on the crank have an effect on the power u can put to the ground, like going with lightweight wheels just even more so?
