Fog Light Rewire drain battery?

Thinking about doing the fog light rewire so i can use them as driving lights.

Question is, with the rewire, if i forget to turn them off when i park the car and leave, will they stay on and drain the battery?

OR will they automatically shut off immediately/after a while?

depends on how they are wired. If you tap into the parking lights, they will be off whenver your parking lights are off. SO if your car is off they will be off.

If you tap into the AC power(which i did) you can turn them on even without the parking lights. They will turn off whenever the car is off, or whenever you turn the switch to off.

If you wire them directly to the battery, somehow cause I've never seen a writeup, then yes, they could potentially be on all the time.

my suggestion when re-wiring, splice into the AC line. They can be on or off whenver you want.

I suggest rewiring the fog light to the AC wire. This is because you have three choices.
1. you could have the fog light on as the daytime running light.(if you dont have that option)
2. you could have ur foglight on with ur parklights (this is nice if you have a 2k2 headlight and the rings)
3. you could have it on / off with ur headlights

I ran mine to the parking light closest to the fuse box. You do know that if you leave your lights on as soon as you open the door the lights turn off.

What colours are the AC lines? I know the parking light is the red with green stripe and silver spots. As well, is it the same on the 2000 Maxima? Thank You.

i think they do turn off by them selves, since mine are spliced into the driving lights. and i remember leaving my headlights on by accident and they turned off after few minutes, so im guessing theyre the same with the driving lights.

they will not turn off by themselves! that only happens when they are in the AUTO mode (not parking or headlight). you shouldnt forget though since you well get the annoying sound when you leave the lights on...not to mention THE BRIGHT LIGHTS!!!

Mine's a 2000 where if you leave the lights on exit your car with lights on the lights turn off no matter what position there in. A 2002-03 must be different.

I used the write up from this site: http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/. Even though the write up is for a 2k2-3 which has differient color wireing. The best part is that there are color descriptions for the 2k-1, which applied to me. If you want the fogs to come on without the driving lights, than this will not apply to you. Mines have been working just finr so far. I also learned how to change the fog bulbs, since one was blown.

Edit: Sorry for same post as #5. I seemed to have missed that one.

i have mine wired into the key power from another relay. it uses a yazaki terminal, i forget what the number is though.

the headlights do shut off after 5 minutes or so of key off/doors closed, even if you leave them in the 'ON' position.

Just a simple note...the headlights are wired differently in the 2k-2k1's as compared to the 2k2-2k's. The 2k2-2k3's have an adjustable timer delay on their headlights after the car is turned off. The 2k-2k1's don't have a delay at all.

Just leave it on parking lights and put to auto and you don't have to worry about your battery.
