my gearshift does not unlock when i press the brake pedal so i can take car out of parked gear. i have replaced the stoplight switch behind the brake pedal. i have even changed the switch next to it which probably has nothing to do with the problem. the gearshift still will not unlock and i have to push the shift lock in with an object to take car out of parked gear.
any ideas or suggestions of what could be wrong now? thanks.

note: the gearshift does make a clicking/unlocking sound when i press the stoplight switch button by hand, probably indicating that the stoplight switch indeed works
