2k2 hid problem

My right hid is out . The way it went out is that it would stop working and then after turning off and on it would go back on. Now it is completely dead. WHat I did was take the blulb and try it in the left headlight to see if its the bulb. It was not the bulb. Then what I did was check all the fuses. Definately not the fuses. After all that I went to my body shops mechanic dude and he says that its something with the actual headlight. He said something about computer. Would this be the ballast that he's talking about. In general, do ballasts go bad after a while. I think he mentioned that it could have been from condensation getting into the headlight.

btw, the right xenon light is only out. The high beam and the corner light are working perfectly. If anobody could help me diagnose the problem I would really appreciate it.

Also, if it is the ballast, what is the price on them?

It sounds to me like its def. your ballast. You say your supposebly bad bulb is working in the other headlight then it's gotta be your ballast. You can take the known working ballast and use in the other headlight, maybe also faulty wiring. Good Luck

thanks, I just seen on e on ebay for 52. I might get a ballast from a broken headlight from the dude at the body shop for free.99 so that might be better. If it's not the ballast then i'll post again.

could be the ballast or the ignitor, either can and do go bad, switch the ballasts on your lights, if the right side works and the left side doesnt its your ballast. if the right side doesnt work and the left does its the ignitor.

Problem for me is that I dont know how to take out the lights. I also have the data dots which supposedly makes it harder. As far as I know there is no way to switch the ballasts without taking the lights out.

If I cant do this by myself tomorrow then by the middle of next week the guy at the body shop will do it for me. I am repainting my hood so I am going to be there anyway. I just want this problem gone so I don't have to worry about the police.

Its the ignitor. And nobody will sell the ignitor seperately. So just get the ballast
and the ignitor for free and replace them both. The ballast is easy to swap but the ignitor is pita. U will have to open up the whole headlight to get to it.

My best advice is to get a whole headlight.

Good luck

Yeah I put 2k2-2k3 HIDs in my 2K, Both were brand new, but the passenger side was OEM, and the Drivers side was one of those ebay knockoff ones.
Well the ebay one has been doing the same thing you are talking about, and it usually goes back on by just turning the lights off and on.
So I re-wired the whole headlight unit, and it still does it ocassionally, so I have determined it to be either still a bad ground (even though I re-grounded it) or the ignitor. Which I will confirm is not easy to get to.
If your HIDs are the original ones that came with your car, then it's most likely not a bad ground in your case.
post your updates...
