Whats wrong? Slower than a 4th gen....

So last week sometime I raced a 4th gen and lost by about 0.5-1.0 car lenths; we went up to about 80mph. Whats wrong? The driver of the 4th gen said he had a cat back and ecu but still, shouldn't I have won, or at least been closer? I was thinking it might be my VIAS but can accelerate all the way to redline. I have disconnected the cables to my VIAS and can tell no difference when I pass 5k rpm though. I have 94k miles on my car and was thinking maybe my spark plugs could be causing timing issues though out the entire powerband. I dont know though.... any input would be appreciated

Why do you think you should have won? you have more HP but your car is also heavier. If you were a 5.5 gen than I would say yes something is wrong there

remove cables?

those are vacuum lines. it should make your car EVEN slower since the VIAS doesn't know when to open and it stays closed throughout the RPM range.

what you should do is remove the power valve. you'll notice power right away. in fact i was REALLY impressed by that mod.

I think that is what he means. He means that he tried testing the VIAS by removing the vacuum cable witch activate it and he couldn't tell a difference so he doesn't think the VIAS is broken.

i though the MEVI was activated by the vacuum and the 00vi was activated by the ECU, there are electical harnes connectors connected to the VIAS which I disconnect (not hoses). Did I disconnect the wrong thing to test the VIAS?

Most of the 4th gens had a better power/weight ratio than the 5th gens. Especially a fully loaded SE with 17" wheels.

very true. rmh3093- consider racing someone is not that great of a benchmark for comparison. you said you ran to 80, everything from traction to maintenance to shiftpoints could come into play. if you think you are low on power then get a dyno done. you can see where/if you are losing power. very quick way to determine if the vias is not functioning. even with a broken vias, it will accelerate all the way to redline but with poor efficiency. btw, if your plugs havent been changed at 94k miles then have that done soon along with the fuel filter.

I have a 2k1 SE, 17's and 5 speed and my buddy has a 97 GXE auto 15" steelies but its been through a LOT of maintenance, great condition, if we go from a roll i get him by about a half to one car and from a stop it goes either way honestly, if i get a good launch and so does he though i usually pull ahead through second

Unless you have a dyno proving a definate powerloss, then

250lbs should not negate a 32HP advantage. Period.

Its not that simple.. I meen if these were both manual tranmission cars, and the 32HP is only observed higher in the rpm range that 32 hp could be completly lost by not shifting late enough, and the extra weight would slow you down
