Suspension Gasket question

I have a question about that red gasket you see in the pics...my other one happen to just walk away, while both my struts sat in my garage...and Nissan wants $10 for a new one ...anyway, is there any real purpose for this gasket?

I have one foo. I'll bring one down with me.

I bet it reduces noise between the 2 metals (the shock and the shock tower).

Didn't put them back on when I did mine, (Friday night, Nissan closed for the 3 day weekend) original ones were shot. Been a while now and no problems.

You can get sheet of gasket paper and make your own gasket. Good for both front and rear.

I made new ones for the rear. I got a sheet of gasket material at Autozone. If you dont use ones in the rear water and sand will get into the trunk and under the rear seat. Thats no good. I havent used front ones for a good while now with no issues.
