Brake problem

Sup all

Here is my problem, At high speeds when I brake my steering wheel will shimmy pretty hard. but anyspeed under 50 the car brakes fine. And the strange part is that the high speed shimmy doesnt always happen. I have factory brake pads and powerslot rotors. Another question can i get slotted rotors shaved ? and i do see a good amount of rust on the rotors can that be an issue? and where in philly can iget this done cheap if it can be done.
thanks for any input...

You need to cut your rotors cause they are warped, but I don't think you can if they are slotted. Slotted rotors will not stop brake rotors from warping cause they are not really warped. The materal from the pads attach themselves to the rotors causing bump spots on the rotors which cause the pulsing you feel when applying the brakes. Good old fashion regular rotors are your best bet cause at least you can cut em

I have the same problem. My guess is the brake pad deposites attach to the rotor, which sometime may affected by ambient humidity or other factors that alter the surface properties of the rotor, make it temperary unsmooth, which in turn creates wrapped rotor feel but actually they are not. Sometime a real hard brake from highspeed would cure the problem by wipping off the dirt on the rotor.

Yes, slotted rotors can be cut...it sounds like you may have pad deposit on your rotors.

Myth: Slotted rotors can't be cut..... Truth: not all machine can cut slotted rotors, but there are machine oout there that can. Just call a few auto shops and ask if they can turn/cut slotted rotors and ask how much, if you find more than one place go with the cheaper one, as any shop that has the correct machine for turning slotted rotors will be quite smiliar to the next. They should pre measure the rotor to make sure it's within the allowable depth to be turned but I'm sure it is if you bought them new and never had them turned before. The wheel vibration will be gone. If you take them off and in yourself it we be dirt cheap approx $15 per rotor. Good luck.

Does anyone here think the stock pads could be to blame and that some Hawks or PBR's would help keep the issue from returning? I've heard a few people call the stock pads crap.

No cause I never had warping problems with my stock pads/rotors. I recently changed them to Bendix TitaII and for the first 3 days they squeeked awful. Now they are quiet as hell and braking is smooth.........Highly reccommended!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was having a similar problem so I changed my front pads and rotors, which fixed the problem. One thing I did notice while doing this was that one of the caliper pins was seized. After unseizing and lubing the caliper pins and changing pads/rotors breaking is great.

I'm getting ready to install some RTP rotors and PBR Ultimate pads from the group deal once they arrive. I've heard people having trouble with seized calipers and wonder what you guys are doing to free them and what you lub them with just in case I experience this.
