Hi,

My '01 GXE has this big clunk noise at the right rear corner whenever I go through a bump/dip, like bottom out on something. It has 68K miles now but the noise started long ago around 50K miles.

I thought the rear shocks were blown and just changed them out with new Tokico Blues yesterday but the noise is still there.

Anyone knows what's wrong here? I have the Cattman rear sway bar installed in the rear since 20k mikes. Don't know if this has anything to be with it.

The rear strut could be rubbing up against the shock tower.

If so, how to fix it?

Well, first of all make sure that is whats going on. Then either get the strut replaced but give it a while cause sometimes it will work itself out, if its not going to do that it will just get worse.

It started in the 50k miles and got worse at 68K. I just replaced the rear struts, hopefully it will get better.

when i got my tiens installed i didnt hear a clunk but more of a scrap (might be the same idk) but i was told to let is adjust and its gone now....

I have the same problem, my 01 max going over a speed bump or a severe dip does make a definate bottoming out or im not sure how to describe it. the front shocks take it like a pro, but then it sounds like the back of my car hits the actual bump when I go over it.

I heard this is a common problem with 5th gen Maxima rear suspension.
