The dreaded P0420 code...anyone else experience it?
Well, again, the dreaded P0420 (three-way catalyst) code popped up on me again yesterday. I first experienced the code about a month ago, so I cleared the code hoping it wouldn't come back, but now it did. Being that it came back, I knew something was definitely wrong. I was hoping I didn't need a new cat, but after doing some research there was a bulletin on this code covered up to 8yr/80K miles. So, off to the dealer and they re-programmed the ECU and now the car runs much smoother, without slight "hesitations" I was experiencing at times, especially at startups and shifting after the few, first miles of driving. If anybody else expierenced this code, you may want to find out if you fall within the warranty period and get the car repaired. More than likely, they will re-program the ECU (highly doubting replacing the cat) and car will run much better. And being my car is a 2K, I was lucky to get it done within the warranty eventhough the service manager said there was a slight "grey" area to where my car fell into. Well, I thought I might share this with you guys if anyone is skeptical or interested if you ever happen to get this code.
