how much is my car worth??

I'm going to be trading her in here really soon. Was just wandering if anyone can tell me how much trade-in is going to be on her

2002 Maxima SE, leather, 6 speed
Excellent condition, no scratches, no serious accidents, just the bumpers repainted

has the bose, and 67K on the Odometer, i'm going to strip it of all the mods, except for the DDE's and the wheel/tire combo (18 inch TSW thruxtons) and the new brakes all around

do you guys think i could get around 12k for it as a trade in???

they'll probably want to give you ~11k for it, but if you're a good haggler, you can bump it up to 12. At the dealer, they always use the excuse of it not being automatic, because most people don't want a 6-speed maxima. When i went to look at a used G35, they appraised my car at 12k (with 55k on it) and said that if it were an auto, they could have given me 14k....

I would venture 10k at a dealership, but you could sell her privately for about 12-13k.

I use www.nadaguides.com gives a good idea of what you can expect.
But yeah you really need to stand your ground with some dealers if you have a price you want in mind.
Good luck

Kelley Blue Book is a great sellers guide, due to the fact that most dealers boast that they are lower than KBB Carmax included. NADA is what I feel is closest to the value of the car, my bank loans straight from the retail numbers from this online service.

if you did a trade in at a Nissan Dealership you're likely to get more. It seems like demand for 5th gens especially one-owner ones are increasing. I had a sales manager ready to "make me a happy man" for my black 03 that isn't perfect with over 100k on it. But, if you want the most from it, sell it yourself. Follow the Mister Obvious stuff, but Also get the TMV from edmunds.com and average the 3 dealer trade-ins together, and head into the dealership at the end of the month. Trust me, you can find some hungry salesmen ready to bend if you come in like on the 28th with the title in your hand. Also, if you have payments left, call up NMAC or whoever you financed through and get an EXACT amount of your loan pay-off value. the dealership will use this to calculate what they're willing to give you. knowing all this you should be able to go in with what you want (the average of those 3 source's trade-ins) what the dealer wants to give you (kbb trade-in for fair-good; they might offer you excellent but it's still too low imho) and what you can afford to take (somewhere between your average and the kbb average) they WILL leverage the published kbb against you if you're steadfast, so at that point, drop them your number and get up to leave. If they're good, or need your sale, they won't let you walk without at least sitting the sales manager in front of you, then you're talking.

Our local Carmax has zero Maxs right now,and I have heard that when they are hungry for stock they will pay more than wholesale, at least they have before on the auction block.

No, I doubt you'll get $12k out of it unfortunately.

Good luck, however.

Don't forget that what they want to give you for your car also depends on how much they are discounting the new car. It's a numbers game. When I bought my 03 Max I stared by demanding a 3% below invoice start price on the new car. They asked if I was trading, and I said I was not sure. I traded an Altima with high miles, so I started by driving the new car price down knowing they would use mileage on the trade to minimize the showing. It also helps to leave and come back. I did it 4 times over 6 weeks, and I made out great. I traded the 9 year old 165K mile Altima and got the TE SE Max for 21,700. Sticker was 28,275. I actually asked for an additional $200 off at signing, stating that they had 18 more Max's sitting on the lot in Dec... I got it... be ruthless... they still make money...

not as a trade in... maximas are worth next to nothing used. the depreciation is sad. :\

dealers often trade you in at auction prices so and no car is in excellent shape as KBB lets you choose.

10K-11K is a realistic number IMO.
