Help me with a muffler choice

I am having a issue were when I start my car is sounds as if I have a performance muffler but after a while it settles down. But I can hear like a leak or something when I accelerate. I went into a muffler shop today and they said I had a little crack in my muffler pipe tubing. He said that a new muffler with instillation would be $300ish. I think this is kinda high so I told him to give me a couple of days to check the prices. He said he would be giving me a Bose or Bosal muffler I can't remember which, but what do you guys think is this a good deal or not. Would should I expect to pay?

Thats not really a bad price for a muffler installed, cause the labor and what not. I wouldn't do it just because if you have to get a new muffler you might as well upgrade.

I would get the full catback if it was me, but you can just get the Muffler Section for a lot cheaper if thats all that needs to be replaced. Check it out

can probably find it cheaper other than CE, but it was just to give you a pic

I just went through the same thing...assuming your have a pipe break at the muffler flange - looking though the other threads the muffler tubing around the flange that connects the muffer to the intermediate pipe near the rear passenger tire is a common problem for our 5th gens.

I was considering a Bosal muffer as well - I was actally going to replace the entire muffler and intermediate pipe with Bosal. The price for this would have been $250 CDN for parts and another $150 CDN for labour.

The thing that you sort of lose is the original Nissan OEM Calsonic muffler which is stainless steel and will probably outlast most replacements. Getting a new Nissan muffler is an option but I was told that the flange would probably rust again at the same point. The Bosal is aluminized steel (not as good as stainless) which would have a better flange but it may not sound the same. As well some say that the Bosal is missing a flap inside that exists in the Nissan muffler and helps in the low RPM range.

Solution: I'd suggest just getting the flange removed and replaced with a piece of tubing welded in. This is the route I went with and it cost me $150CDN for the fix. You could try to fix it yourself but getting to the area was a PITA for me.

I will post pics of the fix in my other thread soon.

Forget Bosal, go with aftermarkter cattman exhaust. You won't be dissapointed with it. It's not loud, better performance, and better sound + better looking!
