Opinions on HKS rear section for teh 5th gen.

Let me start off first by saying I did do a serach. Anyways I would like to know if any 5th genners have the HKS rear section and if so how do you like it? Was the install easy (direct bolt), sound, gains?

Just like any other axle back for this car... minimal gains. IMO it sounds great, and looks great. From what I hear it is a quality piece (better be for that price) and is a direct bolt on. Heck, if I could find one used I'd get it.

People who I know have/had it: Edward Lee, vq356sp, whazzzuup, SR20DEN (but his got wrecked), TitaniumMax03, Gooey (sold to whazzzuup).

Awesome, just who I wanted to respond! By any hair of a chance you would happen to have a sound clip of it on a VQ30 would ya?

See if xlcrew's links in the Exhaust sticky still work, if not, you can PM him for clips or I'll check to see if I still have em on my computer at home.

I forgot that he has a HKS too.

Like puppetmaster said, I have one on my Max. It is a simple/easy bolt on no problems and great fitment/quality I have had mine for yrs and still looks awesome. My only Warning to you is if you have or plan on getting headers I would steer away from it cause it is LOUD I hate how loud it is but wont part with it cause it looks so damn nice and cost me a nice chunk of change. As for gains I would say they are minimal cant say for sure cause I never dynoed it alone. IMO 1 of the best looking mufflers for the 5th gen max

The rear section sounds amazing on a stock car or a car with y and/or b-pipe. The quality is top-notch, as expected from a reputable company. On the other hand, the HKS is too loud at WOT with headers. That is my subjective opinion. I am currently running the stock rear section with the Hotshots. However, it is certainly not loud to a guy that is familar with modified Hondas. It is quieter and much deeper than my H22 Accord with Greddy Evolution exhaust.

Im sold on it now! So arguably the best way to go about it is with a good B-pipe. Any recommendations?

Or a Frankencar, if you can find one.

There's also Stillen, Warpspeed, and custom.
