RPM at 80MPH
Y2KMaxGXE-R is right on. I have a 01, SE, 5-sp manual just like yours. Red line on the tac is 6600 and if the engine could push the car to that in 5th, it would be going 160 or the end of the speedo - i. e., at 80 mph, I get 3300 rpm similar to what you get. (hightest I've had it was 142 on the speedo in good conditions). I do run the stock tires (the 225/50R17's) at 36 lbs psi vice the recommended 31 psi to get even wear over time and to protect the sidewalls from damage on pot holes. The tires and pressure might make my rpms @ 80 slightly lower than yours if you're runing smaller tires or are underinflated. My recent mileage on a long trip with average speed of 75 to 80 mph was 27.5 mpg. Switching from regular to ELF synthetic oil at 65K miles mproved power and mileage somewhat.
well from what i understand, the more power mods you have to your car, then the lower the RPM will be at a given speed cause the engine is doing less work.. like i plan on putting a y-pipe on the car as well, and that should drop the RPM's at a given speed since the exhaust stream will flow easier
not quite.... it wont change, it'll get to a given rpm faster. only way thats possible is by changing the gears in the transmission from my knowledge.
and if you dont get, i have intake, y pipe, and b pipe and it didnt change the rpm at all. but it gets to redline a microsecond faster

I dont want to change the topic and I dont want to thread jack neither. But I felt it would be useless to start a new thread for my quick questions.
1. I have an 00 Auto (cali spec). I drive on the highway will overdrive off and my
RPM is around the same 3400 - 3800. I only do this cos the car pulls harder and it doesnt down shift as much (unless you really want it to).
2. Is this bad for the tranny or and Motor?
3. Ive gotten better gas mileage driving on highway with overdrive off. Does this make sense?
4. I think Auto Maximas especially 5th gen have their peak HP from 3500 to 5000 RPM. Right or wrong?
5. The last question, what gear is the tranny in with overdrive off? I know most people would say 4th gear but please do not assume or make conclusions. Please try it out first. To answer my own question, Id say 3rd gear. Who agrees with me?
Thanks everybody

2. Not bad for either
3. Does not make sense, but other conditions could be contributing to it
4. Basically correct after 5500 rpms is where we lose a lot of the power.
5. The transmission goes into 4th gear before settling into O/D, so the answer is 4th gear not third...

just kidding.,. I am just jealous I have the shorth-geared 5 sp instead of the 6 gear
