Have any of you heard this?

There is a strange noise coming from the front end. It sounds like something is rubbing. It started off when I was turning, like the rotors were warped. So, I bought new slotted and drilled rotors and bought new pads. It still makes the noise. Even when I rotate the tires or put on my stock rims.
Now it makes the noise all the time. My wife drives the car 99% of the time and I don't it to break down on her. My best guess would be the CV boot and drives or some kind of bearing. How much am I looking at if I have to replace them? And can anyone do it? At this point I'm ready to put a few 00 buck rounds in to it.

if it's kind of a grindy/scratchy rubbing sound, it's almost certainly one of the brake rotor dust shields rubbing the back of the rotor. This is a common occurance on 5th gens. jack the car up and check out particularly the bottom of it, where it comes VERY close to the rotor. Use your fingers to bend it back a bit.

The grindy scratchy noise actually describes it very well. It is a lot worse when turning, and it seems to get better when on the freeway for longer periods of time.
We'll definitely check that out. I can only hope that it's such an easy fix.

Well... to follow up on this. I put the front end up on jack stands and could see any scraping or evidence of the shield hitting anything. I putthe wheel back on and ran the car in gear. Of course, it didn't make the sound. WTF? ... Until I hit 3rd gear. While in 3rd gear, the noise started. With the car in gear and wheels spinning, I still couldn't pin point where the sound was coming from. The only thing I could see is the boots were not spinning evenly or true. That could be the rubber itself. But nothing stuck out.
I guess she's just going to drive it until it blows up. It's time for new tires anyways... So I'll have her take it to a place that does front end work as well. Maybe they can tell where it's coming from.

yup, even if its doesnt look like its touching try to pry it back so that its like 5mm away from the rotor.

Sounds a lot like a wheel bearing to me. I have always noticed that when a wheel bearing goes bad I can kinda feel like a tapping in the gas pedal. If its louder turning in one direction, then its the opposite wheel bearing thats bad i think. So if its loud turning left, then the right bearing is bad.

+1 for the wheel bearing. When mine went bad, it would only occur during low speed turns.

Jack up the front end, grab the front wheels and see if there's any play. If you catch it early enough, you won't have to replace the hub, which is $$$$.
