Need Help! Can't figure out Problem
Ok guys I have an 03 Max and I just replaced my MAF with the 22680-2Y001 instead of the AM600 which is what came with the car. I carefully cleaned everything and replaced the air filter too. I also did the IAT swap and I did not reuse the old sensor. I disconnected the negative battery terminal and all. When I started the car it was doing the same thing as beforethe new MAF. It can't rev past 2500 rpms whether at a standstill or when you are driving. I wander if anyone has had this problem after changing their MAF. I know some people on the org with 02 and 03's use the cheaper MAF because of the high cost of the AM600 MAF, but I am wandering if the ECM has to be reset or not. Directions said you have reset it, but that is assuming you are installing it a 01. Could this be the problem?? Or could it be something else different from the MAF?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My last resort is taking it to the stealer and that could mean paying a lot of $$. Oh and by the way I searched the MAF threads already. Nothing I found was helpful. Thanks in advance guys.
Another bad MAF maybe?
Where did you get the new MAF from? Do you know anyone else with a max that you could maybe try their MAF?
I am pretty sure that other than the IAT sensor, there are no other issues with the 5.5 gens using the 2Y001 MAF.

I don't think you should have to reset the ECU but it couldn't hurt to follow the procedure and do it - it only takes 5 minutes.
BTW, part number is 22680-2Y001 for the MAF......probably just a typo but I thought I would clarify.

1st time I replaced my maf I had to get the ecu updated with the new maf. I know with the 2k1 maf you can use it fine but a check engine light will be on because of the iat sensor that 5.5gens require. Try putting the maf back to how it was originally when you bought it and install it and see if it allows you to rev pass 2500 but with the check engine on. If so then the iat sensor might be bad.
How long did you have your battery disconnected? I just replaced my MAF with a new one from Dave B and my battery was disconnected for about 3 days. Put in the new MAF along with new spark plugs, air filter and PCV valve and I haven't and any problems yet. Try leaving it disconnected for about a day and see if that will fix the problems.
I used the '01 MAF on my '02.
ECU should not need to be reset. (Although it wouldn't hurt. There is a HOW-TO in the STICKIES) It should work right away.
The IAT has nothing to do with this.
Disconnecting your battery will do nothing for an 02-03.
Re-check your connections, if all seem "ok" I would vote for another bad MAF.

I am going to try to do the ECU reset today following the directions in the Stickies. I will also recheck eveything to make sure I did'nt overlook anything. I hope this does'nt turn out to be another bad MAF. I will post results later today. In the mean time any other comments/suggestions would be appreciated.
Ok when I was about to reset the ECU I noticed that the instructions apply to a situation where the check engine light was already on. A few days before I installed the new MAF the check engine light mysteriously disappared, but I still had the same problem. The day I first experienced the problem Nov 1st 06, most of the org member told me this was possibly a bad MAF. I went to Auto Zone the same day and they pulled a few codes PO455, PO650and PO1448. None of these codes are MAF related. Despite i dont have a CEL I tried the ECU reset procedure anyway(timing it very exact) but same problem above 2500rpm's. I called the dealership and they said that I could either wait until the CEL comes back or bring it in for them to try to figure it out without the CEL on. The second option would require me to leave the car there for a day. I getting very frustrated now. What do you guys recommend?? Another bad MAF or could this be something completely different so let the dealership handle this one?
It seems like you've done almost everything you can. You replaced the MAF, reset the ECU and disconnected the battery for a bit. If these symptoms are still there and you can't fix it, bring it into the stealership. It seems like you're a DIY'er as I am cause you hate bringing it in when you can fix it..but sometimes you have to bring it in and let them work on it.
I am going to try to test the IAT sensor to see if that might be the problem. At the same time I am going to try to resolve the issues with the codes that were pulled before the CEL disappared just so I could rule those out as a possible cause. After that I guess I will head to the dealership and see if they can figure this one out. I might be something simple to fix. Maybe or maybe not. Worse comes to worse I'll just sell the Max and buy a new car. Thanks for everything guys. I will post an update to let you know how this turns out just in case someone else on the org has the same problem with their car in the future.

Try unplugging the maf sensor and seeing how the car runs. Most of the time if u unplug and the cart still runs alrite and doesn't stall then that's your problem. If you unplug and the car stalls right out or the idle starts looping crazy you know the maf is working. Try the same for the iac.
Good luck with it.
