Ok a few days ago I posted a problem that I had with a P0650 code and one of the org members responded by saying it could be a possible ECM circuit problem. Well today I took the car to the dealership and it turns out he was right. After spending about 2 hours on the car they came to the conclusion that the P0650 is the the culprit. It causes the car to go into "fail safe mode" which is why I could'nt rev past 2500 rpms. It is also causing to SES light to fail the bulb test when you turn the ignition to the "ON" position which means the LED behind the SES light is good, but the circuit has a
malfunction so the SES won't work at all. It might also be giving false codes too.

The solution to this problem is a new ECM which is gonna cost me $799 + tax pre-paid before they order it and $135 in labor. They will credit me the diagnositc fee when I come back and have them put it in. Now I don't know if I should call up Nissan and raise some hell about this even though the car is past the warranty with 89,000 plus miles on it, or just suck it up and pay the money. Either way I am gonna have to get this resolved soon so I can have the car functioning properly again and have a SES light back. Oh by the way they reset the ECM so the car is not in "fail safe mode" anymore and I can rev past 2500, but that could change at any moment. And one last thing I did a search on this and could'nt find any threads with anyone having a similar situation. So if anyone has had a similar experience I would be happy to hear your comments on it.

 

I just ordered a used ECU because mine also got blown from a bad IACV. Mine was $160 shipped with a 6 month gaurantee. No need to get a brand new one. $135 in labor? It's plug and play

I'm having the exact same problem . Ive been clearing the code each time it starts jerking and loseing acceleration and it stops doing it for a while . But now it's not lasting very long between episodes.

 

Eventually you'll have to change it. Check rockauto.com for parts if this piece if available. They normally carry parts that are OEM replacements or as good as OEM. Continued use of the vehicle with a failing ECM is going to create other headaches. There's only so much time you can buy until you HAVE to get it done. What year and mileage Maxima do you have?

 

Grab an ECU from a wrecker, or buy a second hand replacement. You'll need to reprogram your keys. I use NDS2 for that

 

Ebay. $40 bucks. Unless you like crawling around in a stinky wrecker that's been sitting in the rain for a month with the windows open.
