Question regrading steering wheels audio controls

Hi,
My question is;
has anyone made (with a bose system, dont know if this make a difference) their steering audio cotrols work again after going aftermarket deck WITHOUT using a pac swi-x. The problem is i heard of some lag time after going ir with the swi-x and my 9856 doesnt seem to be on the pac compatability list either with the swi-alp.

Is there a way to use the swi-alp to hardwire with a non-compatible alpine deck or is there another option that iam not aware of?

On another note, if i the swi-x turns out to be the only option will it only enable me to use only the audio/ track controls or will it also reneable the dte/ milage mode button also (sorry dont know what its called exactly)

[before anyone replies, i tried searching in audio section and in general but coudnt find any direct answers so i thought id post here (also assuming this section get more 5th gen traffic )]

Thanks much folks

I have a question...I just had my Alpine system installed in my 02 SE and "Could Have" had the steering wheel controls interfaced for an additional amount...but I decided not to. My question is, is there only a single connection from the steering wheel controls for the stereo? I can get over the use of the volume buttons, but I want to be able to use the "TRIP" button to toggle between MPG,Temp, and DTE. Any thoughts?

To use the "Trip" button ground the brown wire that is left over in the smaller harness.
