Engine oil DipStick.

Hey all,

I wanted to see if anyone has the same issue I have with the dipstick. When I check the oil, there is dirt on the tip of the stick.

I pull it, clean it, and pull it again and the dirt is there.

I knew that was coming. 2k miles ago. running amsoil 5w 30. Mobil 1 110 filter. change the oil every 6k, filter every 3k. Per bobtheoilguy, I had some sgins of wear, this was about 15k miles ago. I ran auto rx, rand dino for 3k and put in amsoil after that.

I have another sample out to them. Asking them about the dirt and why is it I burn about 1/2 -1 quart of oil every 2k miles.

well as far as the burning of oil you can do a search on the here and find out that you are not the only one burning oil. some of our motor do burn oil i burn oil myself. As far as the dirt in the oil try doing another oil change use FRAM oil filter and try a different brand of oil i use mobile one synthetic 10 w 40. i dont know if that would fix the problem though.

dirt....
probably rust. If you're having the same problem soonerfan did, somehow water/coolant is getting into the oil pan and rusting it from the inside. I literally put my finger through the bottom of his oil pan when tapping it a few months back...oil dripped out. It rusted from the inside. My 00 oil pan has NO rust on it, and we live blocks away and mine gets alot more road salt on it from skiing.

It's undoubtedly related to his ongoing issues with his engine (including losing a TON of oil) that he's had the car in for several times and will likely result in a replacement engine very soon.

PM to soonerfan and see if he'll comment on this thread.

Do not EVER EVER EVER use a FRAM oil filter. They are absolutely the worst possible POS filters you can put on your car. Terrible terrible terrible. There have been so many tests on this subject, particularly on BITOG.

I used to use FRAM but after doing my research, I would never ever put on on my car again.

and i looked at the old oil pan and the rusting was actually from the outside. there was no rust on the inside.

I don't see how that could be. You where there when I was looking at it, and it was clearly bubbling the paint from the inside. The only other option is that there was a small hole in the pan or the paint and water got behind it and rusted it from the "middle"...definitely wasn't surface-in rust.

i figure that the pan scrapped on something and removed the paint. the rust started on that bare metal and worked under surrounding paint.

My wifes 03 with 75K has severe rust external side of the pan. I blamed it on Michigan salt. In any case it is in very bad shape.

My DP sometimes gets dirt on it because when checking the oil level, there may be dirt present on the perimeter of the dipstick entrance or somewhere in that area (VC/head)

This has also happened on my 95 w/ 235k miles.
