Torque Converter?

There is a problem with my engine as it approahes speeds of 60mph and more. You hear the engine raving but it isn't producing any work. At times when I am on the highway I attempt to speed, but my Max struggles to reach 80 mph. The is so annoy. This problem has been happening about a month now. As we all know, Maxima's are known for its accerlation and speed and I am not enjoying any of this excitement. I need speed in my life, you have no idea.

I figured something was wrong with my transmission, so before I take it to a shop I wanted to hear you guys opinions. What am I getting myself into?

MODS so far:

Greddy exhaust
strut bar
k-sport coilovers
350z 18" wheels

Can you feel the shift points? What's your rpm at 60 mph? You sure you getting into top gear and there's no problem with the overdrive off switch keeping you out of top gear? Also there's always the sensor issues. Like the MAF?

Yes, I can. It doesn't transition smooth as automatics should.

Its know it goes a little over 4000, close to 5000 rpm/min till it goes into the next gear

There is no problem with the overdrive off switch keeping out of my gear. Sometime I would use the overdrive off switch to help me acceralate because of the high rpm/min.

Only thing I am aware off is the O2 sensor that needs replacing.

As much as I would like to, I am not happy about paying 400 per month. My car is still young, it only has 74,000 miles on it.

You have enough tranny fluid?

I had a similar problem with another car, the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) be came unplugged. I am seven sure if these cars have a VSS but thought I would throw that out.

First thing I would do is get the codes checked, then go from there.

Good luck.

It sounds like a MAF problem, IMO....(Mass Air Flow Sensor)

I had very similar problems when my MAF went out, where the car would actually bog down between 3k-6k rpm......it almost felt like the tranny 'slipping', but as I did some research over the net, I found out this is a common problem with the Maxima...

If I were you, I would start there first..

Also, having an 02 sensor code isnt helping either....you can take it to just about any autoparts store (Advanced, Auto Zone, ect.) and have the codes pulled, to find out which sensor is out...They will do it for free and you can come back and research the error codes yourself..

Nissan OEM for 2000/2001 MAF is part #22680-2Y001.

Also, you can get the 2000/2001 MAF at www.nissanparts.cc for $88.40 shipped.....or ebay for about the same price..
