Very Sucky Accident - Feedback Plz

Working in CT from MA.

Right on I 91 a huge piece of ice/snow falls off a truck I was driving next to. BOOM!

My hood is dented in, my front grill is smashed in half and i bet there are scratches on the front bumper.... too much salt on my car, i cant see them.

My question: should i just buy a grill and have a mechanic fix the dent or go through the insurance?

im pissed right now. It happened 2 hours ago and Im sadly working right now....

File a claim w/ ins. and get it done by a good body shop the right way one time. Dont 1/2 A$$ it you wont be happy in the end.

I was rear ended on Christmas day and could not be happier with my nice new rear bumper.

File a claim with your insurance. Usually they will take a statement and you will have to pay the deductible, but your rates should not be drastically effected as long as it's no fault. They may still go up some, but it won't be a lasting thing.

thats a tough one cause your deductable might be more than the cost of repairs..I agree with Time2go..regardless - get it done right the first time - that really sux..but it could have been worse - glad your ok man..

lol the funniest thing is that I was planning on selling the car and getting a AWD car. now after the claim i might as well keep it and ride it to the ground...

thanks guys. ill file the claim. ill try to get my mechanic to replace the hood, grille and front bumper. i think that will be more than my 500 deductible........

I wouldn't be so quick to file a claim. I don't know what your current rates or driving record is like, so I can't say for sure. If you've got some priors on your driving record &/or some previous claims, you may want to just pay for the repairs on your own.

If you go ahead and file a claim, you run the risk of your rates going up significantly. Like I said...it all depends. I would first get some quotes on what it will cost to fix it independent of insurance. You may find that its cheaper than your deductible. I'd talk to you your agent and see what they think.

It all depends on what you can live with...... A better pained front bumper, new grill, new hood will look better than 1/2 a$$ repaired one. Also the paint and shop labor will be over 500 if you go out of pocket. It will cost more that $500 so go with insurance. That is why we pay them to begin with. Also, Insurance co. MAKE bodyshops stay in a reasonable range for repairs and make the shops back up the work they (ins.) pay to have done to a clients car.

nope. the truck was gone by the time i was alert and not pissed off.

i called my insurance company, AMICA, she told me it wouldnt have mattered. It was an act of god/nature (BS! since it was the trucker who didnt brush off the snow!!!!!!) and i would need to pay my deductible. I talked to 3 reps and they all said the same thing!!!!

i called my mechanic and told him I want my front bumper, hood and grille replaced. the appraiser is coming monday to check it out and I hope he is generous.

yeah I heard a lot of New Englanders had this Ice falling accident..... man it sucks.

There are a lot of these accidents here in Philly also. And here in Philly..its the law for motorist to clean their cars. However, its rarely enforced.

I'm driving on the highways in Philly and I see ice and chunks of snow flying around. I was driving an SUV and I was hit with a pretty good size chunk of ice or snow. I tried to avoid it but it was coming right at me and it hit the front of the SUV....the hood deflector is destroyed but the hood was not damaged.
Be careful out there ya guys.

Well mine hit the windshield clean. It was cheaper for me to end up just replacing the windshield on my own. Insurance companies are scams.
