Does anybody have an Upper Intake Manifold, the collector, and TB that they could either sell to me or loan me? It will need to come out of a 02-03 Maxima 3.5L.

I need to make my CAD drawings based off these manifolds. Thanks!

You can borrow my spare IM and collector. Sent you a PM.

Ok thank you!

I might need a spare TB from the 3.5 also. OR, if someone can give me pics of what the backside of the TB looks like compared to the upper collector tube, that would help. I just need to base my drawings off of either the TB or the elbow tube. I need to design which would be better for airflow and cosmetic appeal once it's installed.

I will NOT skimp on my design and testing of this kit. The first run of these will be perfect just like the first run of my VE spacers.

Ok stupid question...

For the guys who have modified their Intake Manifolds, would we see extra gains with the spacers too (if the spacers gain any extra power at all)? I have yet to modify my IM (eventhough I have the write-up) and I am waiting for the spacers to be finish, so I can get a good tune with my SAFC II with the TS ECU.

Or should I just go ahead and modify the manifold and get dyno-tuned.

By modifying, you mean to remove the variable intake system from the inside? If that's all you mean, then DEFINITELY these spacers will still show a gain.

It's not really the lengthened intake plenum spacer that gives the power. That helps. But it's the cooler intake manifold temps that really makes a nice difference. The intake manifold temps can be decreased by as much as 60 degrees. Average temp decreases are usually 40 degrees for other cars.

Thanks for the explanation. I am so patiently waiting for your project to be completed.

I can't quote any pricing right now b/c I haven't gotten all my CNC and bolt costs for the kit. But right now, just to let you know, this kit will have FIVE spacers! The VE kit only had 2. CNC and material costs are 90% of the price of the kit. So right now, I do expect the price to be higher than the VE kit.

But this is going to be an AWESOME kit! Two Lower IM spacers, Upper IM spacer, Upper IM collector spacer, and a Throttle Body spacer. It's not set in stone right now, but that's where it's going right now.

I don't want to talk too much b/c I want to have this kit developed and tested before stating facts. Right now, it's all 'here say' since I'm in the beginning of the design process.

But this kit WILL get made!

Keep up the good work man...pencil me in for one (or 5 haha)

It's very possible these spacers will work on the 6th gen since I believe they have the same intake manifold.

But I can't say for sure. If for any reason they don't, then I will design spacers for the 6th gen also.

man i am interested in seeing the temperature change. i just changed my plugs last night and after driving 10 minutes and letting my car sit for 2 hours at 50 degrees my IM was Still pretty damn hot. and yes the gaskets are flimsy metal. any idea when these will be available and if you are doing a before and after dyno???? not sure if that was mentioned already

My goal is to have these spacers developed in 4-6 weeks from now. But it will all depend on my ability to get my hands on a test vehicle in Eastern NC. I have already made arrangements for a guy to come from over an hour away. I hope that doesn't fall through. Also, it's dependant on me getting a spare Lower IM, Upper IM, Elbow, and TB. I have already made arrangement to get those too. I already have the lower IM, thanks to NisMax03.

So right now, we are on track!

Yes, I will be doing before and after temperature and dyno testing.

This may be a dumb question, but I live in Arizona where summer temps are 110+. Will this make a difference even in these extreme heat conditions?

Thanks

I lived in Las Vegas for over 3 years, so I'm use to temperatures over 110*F. I've spent all this time bracket racing my Maxima and understanding how heat soak effects 1/4 mile times. So I know how intake manifold temperatures effect ETs.

These phenolic intake spacers have a more noticable gain in the summer months than they do in colder weather. The hotter the temps get, the more gain you will see!

The guys on this forum with the VE30DE motor are always complaining about heat soak. It's only noticable when the motor gets up above 210 degrees in the summer months. But by keeping the upper intake manifold cool, the heat soak is almost completely eliminated!

Thank you for your interest! I actually already have a 2K2 Altima 3.5 to use for a test vehicle locally. So testing of this product will be easy for the Altima.

Also, since the Altima has an EGR system, I will conduct seperate testing for the 02-03 Maxima. I believe the spacers will be the same, but other testing will be needed to accommodate the change in emissions. Once I make the spacers for the 3.5L Maxima, I will test fit them on the Altima and make sure they fit perfectly.

I'd be very interested for my 03 Altima 3.5. I have these on my sr20 in my NX, it made a big difference. I could run the car for a while, pop the hood and touch the IM and it would be cool to the touch.

The 05-06 Altima has EGR. The 02-04 Altima doesn't.

If you're in need of any down payments, or anything.. I'm more then willing to donate some cash (so long as I can get the amount I have to pay discounted from the amount I donate ) I'm VERY interested in this modification.. and I know JUST how hot the intake manifold can get after a hard drive. The cooler is stays, the better it is. Add on nitrous and oh man! It's going to rip!

That's great. Thank you for that information! I haven't had a chance to design the kit with a 02-04 Altima test vehicle yet.

No down payments will be needed. I will just go ahead and get these made for you guys as fast as possible and release them after a full day of testing.

Where is your shop located?

Will you install these spacers for an additional cost? I'm too to unbolt anything in the bay.

You can find the general directions to my shop on my website, www.nissanworks.com.

I am only about an hour east of Sanford 5 minutes off highway 264. I will be more than happy to install these for you for an extra cost. PM or email me if you want pricing for labor.

maxima0001, the VQ30DEK has a composite plastic type intake manifold which already stays pretty cool. I don't see any huge gains that can be had by using these phenolic spacers. We might only be talking a couple horsepower on that motor. But on the VQ35DE, I see a huge potential.

however, the seller was very imature and the dyno graphs that were provided showed serious differences not related to the spacer. so he basically dropped off and hasnt been heard from since

I finished reading this thread, after FINALLY coming back to this board and I don't see any rough estimates on how high the upper IM and runners will be raised. Too much and it won't clear most FSTBs. Just wanted to throw that out there, has come up in past discussions about this.
I really hope this works out. Nextgear just dropped off the face of the earth after some interest.
