Oil Filter Cap...

I have a VQ35DE in my 4th gen, I forget whether it's from '02 or '03 but regardless I noticed that the original oil cap was defective.

I would tighten it by hand and it would get a little tight then come completely loose again. I notice the rubber gasket was missing. I went out and got a '03 VQ35DE oil cap part # 15255-8B000 this cap looks and fits a bit differently. It goes on the engine just fine but doesn't get super tight, instead it starts clicking once it's tightened sort of like a top on a medicine bottle and sort of like the VQ30 cap. I wanted to make sure that this cap would be okay.

it should be fine. if it was no good, you'd prolly throw a cel or get a low oil/pressure light

The '02 and '03 Maxima are the same correct? Because the oil filter cap I have is for a 2003 Maxima.

False info. I've run w/o a cap for many miles. It doesn't affect OP.

Yeah I figured it had nothing to do with oil pressure, the oil pump probably regulates that. I think it's only to prevent oil from spilling.

So does anyone know if the '02 and '03 oil caps are any different?

It's the same engine, why would the cap be any different?

oil cap is just to cover the rocker cover from oil splashing out while allowing you to pour oil in. oil doesn't flow there like a river or anything just splashing.. If you leave it off you will splash oil all over and might run low on oil. That's all.
