Shift lever solenoid replacement
Shift lever solenoid replacement
Hi,
I am tired of my shift lever sticking in the locked position and having to use the key to take the car out of park. I assume it is the shift level solenooid causing the problem and plan to go buy one this afternoon. Does anyone know where I would find this solenoid to replace it, and is it a replaceable part without taking a lot of the engine apart? Any charts or pictures would be excellent. Thanks, Mike

I believe it is under the actual shifter (the center console). Order the part, and look for the matching piece under the console. I have not done this before, but I guarantee it's under the shifter and not on the actual tranny.
yeah...the problem is in the shift assembly
the shifter is only connected to the tranny by electrical wires. you move the shifter and an electrical siglan is sent to the tranny and the solenoids in the tranny change the actual gear

I would give the solenoid a test before replacing it by putting some voltage through its harness connector.
Terminal wire 9 (red/green) is the positive and and wire 10 (red/white) goes to ground. Don't screw up the polarity.
BTW on a 2002, the shifter is connected to the transmission by a cable, not electrically.

Thanks everyone. Shifting the gears isn't really a problem I have. Mine comes when I depress the brake pedal, sometimes it dosn't allow me to push the button on the shifter to take it out of park. I can actually hear it click when it does work. Anyway, I will be taking the shifter apart tomorrow or Saturday. Is it in the actually shifter shaft or is it under the shifter plate? Also, anyone know what size it is and what the part is called I need to order? I have been an RX7 owner for a long time and know all the good places to order from. Any recommendations on where to get the part at a fair price?
