About to hit 100k, anything special i need to do?
I'm about to hit 100k on my 2k2. Other than changing a Cam Position Sensor and an Oxygen sensor, the Max has been running strong and great.
Oil is changed every 7.5k miles. Transmission fluid was changed at 60k. Brake fluids at the same time.
Is there anything special i need to do at 100k? Belts? Spark plugs? Fluids?
Thanks!

I would change belts even if they don't look too bad. If at all questionable, change them...better than getting stranded and having to get a tow, in my opinion.
Change plugs. Change fuel filter (should be done 30K intervals per many on this site even though dealer will say 100k). Also, as I have learned from this .org, make sure to get complete change of trans fluid since if they just drained and filled it then you still got 50% or so of the fluid in your car is old fluid. Do more drain/fills or get a complete changeover via the trans fluid return line.
You have been changing pcv valve, right? I change mine every 10-12K automatically just to be safe.
Just my $.02.

Soundmike,
I haven't looked in the manual but with my recently sold 97 at 100K I only changed the spark plugs. I was doing regular maintenance and it appears like you do as well, I make it a habit to physically get under my car via a lift and check my exhaust, brakes, cables and anything else as a part of my preventive maintenance. I put in Redline oil at 65k and never looked back, I sold it (the 97) with the original clutch and transmission and no problems at all using my method. I fully intend to treat the 03 the exact same way.

Thanks for the responses, guys.
I haven't done any other fluid change other than what i mentioned above, so i guess they're all due for replacement. No pcv valve changes either, is that necessary? I never saw anything about that in the maintenance schedules. (then again, what do i know? i'm posting her to ask! )
How about hoses and/or tubes? Is it safe to say that if there are no visible wear i should leave them as-is?
Thanks!

RLW001, i use Mobile 1 Synthetic and the M1-105 filter (which incidentally Mobile 1 recently markets as "Extended Performance).
Blackstone results show 7.5k is fine, in fact i've pushed it to 10k and once to 15k without issue. Thankfully i don't have an oil burner in my hands.

i just got a tune up for my car today...they called it a "major tune up" my car is a few hundred miles from the 100k mark...i think the place i went to only changed the spark plugs, engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, brake, air filter, and not sure what else. i don't think they changed my fuel filter tho...what does changing the fuel filter do?

Changing the fuel filter will likely help your mileage since crud over time gets in there and restricts fuel flow, making the car work harder. Fuel pump works harder, too, when fuel is not free to flow like it should. Also, do NOT let fuel get low b4 filling up. My rule is 1/4 tank and no less - just a conservative safety cutoff so less crud is likely to get into the system from the tank. There is a sticky I think on doing the filter change. It's all plastic assembly and for me was a pain to do and felt like I was walking on eggs so i would not break the cheap plastic and spend big money to buy a new assembly just from replacing the inexpensive filter. However, dealer will probably charge $80-100 or so I guess to do it so for $15 or so and some patience and whatnot you can do it yourself. Just find the posts and read them over and over and over so you understand the pitfalls to avoid and what to do, etc.
But, for $4 at advance you get the pcv valve and GET IT CHANGED!!! Many recommed the purolators from advance since they say they fit well and so that is what I been doing and works ok. There are posts and that replacement as well. I lube the end of it w/ motor oil to help it go in since mine is quite a snug fit.

I do oil changes and add fuel injector cleaner every 4k, new air filter every 10k or so, changed the trans fluid when my clutch was replaced, flushed the radiator once, spark plugs at 100k and that's it. I dont think I ever replaced the pcv or fuel filter, though I might have had it done, I dont remember.
For me, everything else is fix it when it breaks. And to the naysayers, I am at 165000 miles without a single engine or transmission problem. Except for the corrosion problem I had between the engine/trans at 40k; no maintenence in the world would have prevented that.

I have a 2000 i30, the transmission shifts erraticly sometimes, I was thinking about getting a new transmission but i figure if I wait for this one to drop I will own the car a lot longer and Im already in it 3k less then the low book of the car so im not worried 1 bit, I honestly envy your talent! i could never do that kind of mechanical work. Anyway. i thought getting a new transmission was like 1200-1500$? you paid 500$? how much would it cost for me in the future to get a new transmission put in on my 5th gen / 2k i30? Including the labor fees, etc? its something i might have to consider in the future, I have 125k miles on it right now, i got a transmission flush about 6k miles ago that seemed to help A TON but i know its shifting abnormaly every once in awhile, Also the car seems a bit slower then it did back 30k miles ago. Any feedback? especialy about how much It would cost for me to replace the transmission in the future including labor fees?

seriously...
At 120K, a couple ignition coils and an 02 sensor were replaced, that's it. Auto tranny shifted like new and fluid hadn't been changed in a long time (I changed it though).

well if it does explode then **** nissan and infiniti. explain that a bit better too. the transmisison explodes or the engine itself? my sister had 00' maxima with 190k miles she just recently sold it, she never had a problem with it ever.

Guys,
Regarding the 100K mile thingy...I have 74K on mine and still gotta replace the PS belt. Is it worth it to DIY or pay mechanic??? I did the alternator belt but stopped short of the PS belt. Seems quite a pain but is it really that bad?? Honest opinions please. I have the belt already, just needs to be put on.

lol, I'm 25k in the grave right now irish.
I did my 90/100k at the stealer @96k and I prolly coulda done it all with better stuff for 1/4th the price. If you're mechanically inclined and have a driveway to drink beer and work on your car at the same time, you'll be fine doing it yourself.
PCV, Belts, adjust tensioner as needed, check brakes, do the tranny service(get the gasket and the bolts and drop the pan out) spark plugs, radiator flush, brake fluid, oil, oil filter(I like the Mobile 1 filters so keep it up) check your O2 sensors and in-cabin microfilter(I don't remember if these are on the 02 but my 03 has'em) and give your exhaust a good look over for excessive carbon deposits.

I think if any fairly new car is maintained properly and consistantly and not ralleyd up people would be suprised how long these american cars or domestic cars would run, ive driven chevy impalas with smoother transmission then my i30 that has only seen 6k rpms 15-20 times, although I did go without a trans flush for 55k miles.. the question I have is once these maxima / i30 trans start to slip how long do they hang on for before u need to replace them?

Some people get lucky if they maintain them, my uncles f150 has over 250k, original motor and tranny.
But domestic cars cant take as much of a beating IMO.

My dad has had 3 dodge caravans. 1st one he got rid of like 115k cuz it was smoking(3.0L mitsu engine) 2nd one the tranny finally started to let go after 185k(3.3l Chrysler, nothing wrong with it otherwise) and now he's on a 96 with over 190k on the 3.3l Chrysler and still going strong. speed sensor went on the tranny but was fixed for less than $200 at a stealership. I think the moral is to maintain your car and drive it regularly. parts will wear out but better than letting it rot sitting around some place. have fun doing the Maintenance btw

I hear ya, I know there is a volvo around here with more than a 750k on it right now. A friend gave one of his friends who owns a junkyard his old volvo with 300k on it, because the origional clutch was finally shot. That friend subsequently changed the clutch and has been using it as a junk-yard car to haul parts from around the yard. Now that's a good car....

Since you are from the area, It's the one that's way out on rt.40 past Troy, either that or planck rd, I havent been there in a while forget the name, but I did see pics recently of the car and odometer.
5 years, to put 450k on it, it's only 246 1/2 miles a day lol. Now that I think about that one, I gotta go ask him again how many miles he had on it when he got rid of it. I'll also see if I can get the pictures onto my computer so I can post them here
